An ink composition comprising a pigment, a glycol ether, and water, the pigment being dispersible and/or soluble in water without the aid of any dispersant, the glycol ether being one member or a mixture of two or more members selected from the group consisting of diethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether, triethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether, propylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether, and dipropylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether.
