Abstract

A method for delivering a message unit to a destination network resource within a transport communications layer includes the steps of configuring a mapping to the destination network resource based upon a source address of the message unit, and sending the message unit to the destination network resource based upon the mapping.

Claims

1. A method for delivering a message unit to a destination network resource within a transport communications layer comprising the steps of:

configuring a mapping to the destination network resource based upon a source address of the message unit; and

sending the message unit to the destination network resource based upon the mapping.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the source address comprises a source IP address of the message unit.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the source address comprises a source IP address and source port number of the message unit.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the destination network resource has a network resource address to which the message unit is sent.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the network resource address comprises a not valid Internet IP address.

6. The method of claim 4 wherein the network resource address comprises a network address on a local area network.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein configuring the mapping comprises writing a table that maps the source address of the message unit and a network resource address for the destination network resource.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the table maps a host IP address and a host port number for the destination network resource.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising configuring the mapping to send message units to destination network resources based upon source addresses of the message units.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the source addresses comprise source IP addresses for the message units.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein the source addresses comprise source IP addresses and source port numbers for the message units.

12. The method of claim 9 wherein configuring the mapping comprises recording the source IP address of a latest-received connection request.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein the message unit comprises a single message sent during a connection-oriented transport session.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein the connection-oriented transport session comprises a TCP session.

15. The method of claim 1 wherein the message unit comprises a datagram sent during a connectionless transport session.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the connectionless transport session comprises a UDP session.

17. A storage device tangibly storing a control program, the control program, when coupled to a control device, operating the control device to deliver a message unit to a destination network resource within a transport communications layer, the control program being configured to operate the control device to perform the function:

configuring a mapping to the destination network resource based upon a source address of the message unit; and

sending the message unit to the destination network resource based upon the mapping.

18. The storage device of claim 17 wherein the source address comprises a source IP address of the message unit.

19. The storage device of claim 17 wherein the source address comprises the source IP address and source port number of the message unit.

20. The storage device of claim 17 wherein the destination network resource has a network resource address to which the message unit is sent.

21. The storage device of claim 20 wherein the network resource address comprises a not valid Internet IP address.

22. The storage device of claim 20 wherein the network resource address comprises a network address on a local area network.

23. The storage device of claim 17 wherein configuring the mapping comprises writing a table that maps the source address of the message unit and a network resource address for the destination network resource.

24. The storage device of claim 23 wherein the table maps a host IP address and a host port number for the destination network resource.

25. The storage device of claim 17 further comprising configuring the mapping to send message units to destination network resources based upon source addresses of the message units.

26. The storage device of claim 25 wherein the source addresses comprise source IP addresses for the message units.

27. The storage device of claim 25 wherein the source addresses comprise source IP addresses and source port numbers for the message units.

28. The storage device of claim 25 wherein configuring the mapping comprises recording the source IP address of a latest-received connection request.

29. The storage device of claim 17 wherein the message unit comprises a single message sent during a connection-oriented communication session.

30. The storage device of claim 29 wherein the connection-oriented communication session comprises a TCP session.

31. The storage device of claim 17 wherein the message unit comprises a datagram sent during a connectionless transport session.

32. The storage device of claim 31 wherein the connectionless transport session comprises a UDP session.
