Abstract

Monoclonal antibody AT180 secreted by the hybridoma deposited at ECACC on Dec. 22, 1992 under No. 92122204, and monoclonal antibody AT270 secreted by the hybridoma deposited at ECACC on Jul. 7, 1993 under 93070774, each of which forms an immunological complex with a phosphorylated epitope of an antigen belonging to abnormally phosphorylated tau protein (PHF-tau) residing in the region spanning positions 143-254 with the following amino acid sequence:

Claims

1. A monoclonal antibody AT180 secreted by the hybridoma deposited at ECACC on Dec. 22, 1992 under No. 92122204, which forms an immunological complex with a phosphorylated epitope of an antigen belonging to abnormally phosphorylated tau protein (PHF-tau) residing in the region spanning positions 143-254 with the following amino acid sequence:

3. A process for producing the monoclonal antibody of claim 1 which involves:

culturing the hybridoma deposited at ECACC in Dec. 22, 1992 under No. 92122204 in an appropriate medium culture; and

one of

implanting the hybridomas into the peritoneum of a mouse, when ascites has been produced by the mouse, recovering the monoclonal antibodies then formed from said ascities; and

recovering the monoclonal antibodies from the medium culture.

4. A kit comprising the monoclonal antibody of claim 1 and a buffer solution.

A hybridoma deposited at ECACC on Dec. 22, 1992 under No. 92122204, which secretes a monoclonal antibody AT 180 which forms an immunological complex with a phosphorylated epitope of an antigen belonging to abnormally phosphorylated tau protein (PHF-tau) residing in the region spanning positions 143-254 with the following amino acid sequence:
