1. In a server having a processor and memory, a method for delivering scalable multimedia content to be displayed on a display device of a client computer for an end user, the server and the client computer coupled to a computer network, the method comprising:

  • computing a probability of consummating a sale by said end user using at least one indicator associated with said end user which is stored in a database coupled to said server;

    selecting a cost effective bandwidth from a plurality of bandwidths for the scalable multimedia content corresponding to the probability of consummating a sale; and

    delivering the multimedia content to the end user using the selected cost effective bandwidth.
