Adjustable mounting device
First Claim
1. A device for adjustably mounting or connecting an item to a support, comprising:
- a) a first portion including an affixed part that is securely affixed to the support;
b) a second portion including an attached part that is fixedly attached to or incorporated into the reverse side of the item;
c) wherein one of said first and second portions is a vertically adjustable portion and the other of said first and second portions is a non-vertically-adjustable portion, said vertically adjustable portion including a vertically static part and a locking interface, said locking interface being;
i) lockably and continuously vertically adjustably coupled to said vertically static part;
ii) releasably engaged with said non-vertically-adjustable portion; and
iii) formed to respond to a first selected force or series of forces transmitted through the item and/or through a conveniently accessible portion of the device by temporarily unlocking with respect to said vertically static part;
wherein, upon transmission of said first selected force or series of forces, upward or downward force on the item causes in situ, automatic, substantially continuous adjustment to the vertical position of said locking interface relative to said vertically static part.

Abstract
A device that provides automatic, in situ, continuously adjustable mounting of an item on a vertical support, comprising a first portion affixed to the vertical support, and a second portion that fixedly or releasably engages with the first portion and fixedly attaches to or is incorporated in the reverse side of the item. One or both of the two portions is formed to allow automatic, in situ, continuous vertical adjustment and repositioning with respect to the other portion, and one or both portions may also be formed to allow horizontal adjustment and repositioning with respect to the other portion. Also, a device for horizontally extending the available range of mounting positions for items that need to be supported by a stud.

1. A device for adjustably mounting or connecting an item to a support, comprising:

a) a first portion including an affixable part formed to be securely affixed to the support; b) a second portion including an attachable part formed to be fixedly attached to or incorporated into the reverse side of the item; c) wherein one of said first and second portions is a vertically adjustable portion and the other of said first and second portions is a non-vertically-adjustable portion, said vertically adjustable portion including a vertically static part and a locking interface, said locking interface being; i) lockably and continuously vertically adjustably coupled to said vertically static part; ii) releasably engageable with said non-vertically-adjustable portion; and iii) formed to respond, when engaged with said non-vertically-adjustable portion, to a first selected force or series of forces transmitted through the item and/or through a conveniently accessible portion of the device by temporarily unlocking with respect to said vertically static part; wherein, upon transmission of said first selected force or series of forces, upward or downward force on the item causes in situ, automatic, substantially continuous adjustment to the vertical position of said locking interface relative to said vertically static part when said locking interface is engaged with said non-vertically adjustable portion.

20. A device for mounting an item on a substantially vertical flat surface comprising:

a) a first portion including an affixable part formed to be securely affixed to the flat surface; b) a second portion including an attachable part formed to be fixedly attached to or incorporated into the reverse side of the item; c) wherein one of said first and second portions is a vertically adjustable portion and the other of said first and second portions is a non-vertically-adjustable portion, said vertically adjustable portion including a vertically static part and a locking interface, said locking interface being; i) lockably and continuously vertically adjustably coupled to said vertically static part; ii) releasably engageable with said non-vertically-adjustable portion; and iii) formed to respond, when engaged with said non-vertically-adjustable portion, to a first selected force or series of forces transmitted through the item and/or through a conveniently accessible portion of the device by temporarily unlocking with respect to said vertically static part; wherein, upon transmission of said first selected force or series of forces, upward or downward force on the item causes in situ, automatic, substantially continuous adjustment to the vertical position of said locking interface relative to said vertically static part when said locking interface is engaged with said non-vertically adjustable portion.
