- means for determining a service capability associated with a component of the switching node;
means for reporting the service capability to a controlling device; and
means for modifying the operation state of the component based on the reported service capability of the component;
wherein the resorting means periodically updates the service capability associated with the component and sends the service capability to the controlling device after each update.
