1. An apparatus for supporting at least two transducer assemblies against the body of a patient, comprising:

  • a support plate having an upper surface and a lower surface adapted for placement against the body of a patient, said support plate having first and second accessing means for providing access to the body of a patient from said upper surface and through said support plate;

    first support means for supporting a first transducer assembly relative to said support plate and in communication with said first accessing means, said support means holding the active end of said first transducer assembly proximate to the body of the patient when said lower surface is placed against the body of a patient;

    second support means for supporting a second transducer assembly relative to said support plate and in communication with said second accessing means, said support means holding the active end of said second transducer assembly proximate to the body of a patient when said lower surface is placed against the body of a patient;

    means for providing counterforces generally perpendicular to said upper surface and to position said support plate firmly against the body of a patient; and

    means for fixing said support plate in a fixed position with respect to the body of a patient.
