A moisture sensor comprising a moisture sensitive film having conductive particles dispersed in a hygroscopic polymer between a pair of electrodes, the hygroscopic polymer being a modified polyvinyl alcohol which is obtained by saponifying a polymer comprising vinyl ester units and 0.1 to 15 mol % of ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid units such that the vinyl ester units is saponified to a degree of at least 30 mol %.
