In a corkscrew assembly comprising a body, a corkscrew attached to the body and a lever spaced from said corkscrew and having one end pivotally attached to the body, the improvement which comprises the lever having a groove extending from a second end of the lever toward said one end and having a lever extension slidably nested in said groove and being slidably movable between a first and second position, wherein the extension extends beyond said second end in said second position.

- a corkscrew pivotally attached to a generally central location along an axis of said elongated body;
a variable length lever assembly comprising first and second elongated members slidably attached to one another;
said first elongated member being pivotally attached to one end of said elongated body;
said elongated body having a cam surface disposed adjacent said one end of said elongated body;
