1. A process for producing a polyorganosiloxane, which comprises adding an organochlorosilane represented by the following formula (1):

  •

    space="preserve" listing-type="equation">R.sup.1 --Si(Cl).sub.3 (

         1)wherein R1 is a C2-30 straight chain saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group, a C3-30 branched chain saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group, a phenyl group, a cyclohexyl group, a C3-15 halogenated hydrocarbon group, an acryloxypropyl group or a methacryloxypropyl group, to a uniform mixture comprising water and at least one kind of C1-3 straight chain or branched alcohol, to subject the organochlorosilane to a hydrolysis and condensation reaction, wherein the amount of the alcohol in the uniform mixture is 1-30 times (by volume) the amount of organochlorosilane, and the amount of water in the uniform mixture comprising water and an alcohol is 1-30 times the stoichiometric amount of water needed for hydrolysis of the total --Cl groups in organotrichlorosilane.
