1. A winding wedge retention system, comprising:

  • a rotor having a plurality of rotor poles;

    a coil wound on one of said rotor poles;

    a V-shaped support wedge positioned between adjacent ones of said rotor poles and adapted to support said coil; and

    a second wedge having a first surface in contact with said support wedge, a second surface in contact with one of said rotor poles and a third surface in contact with the coil wound on said one of said rotor poles whereby in the presence of varying centrifugal loads said first, second, and third surfaces maintain their respective contact with said support wedge, said rotor pole and said coil so that a uniform gap forms between said coil and its respective rotor pole.
