Method and system for customizing marketing services on networks communicating with hypertext tagging conventions
First Claim
1. A network server for marketing consumer services by dynamically presenting HTML documents that are customized with content indicative of existing brand name familiarity;
- said network server comprising;
modem means for receiving input signals to and transmitting output signals from said network server in response to a client having communications access to said network server;
server means for presenting said HTML documents responsive to requests received by said server means across a network to said client as Web site documents which are at least partially customized in response to an identity of a source which referred said client to said network server;
said server means being responsive to said modem means;
database means for dynamically configuring data stored in said network server in response to said identity of said source which referred said client;
said database means operating in response to said server means; and
processing means for manipulating said modem means, server means and database means to cooperate and present said HTML documents.

Abstract
The present server based communications system provides dynamic customization of hypertext tagged documents presented to clients accessing the system. The customization, which pertains to the content of the documents, is based on the specific requirements of a class to which the client belongs to. The class may be defined by the identity of the source which refers the client to the system. The system utilizes a database which dynamically retrieves stored data in response to a server software tool which configures the data into hypertext tagged documents. The system utilizes a dynamic token scheme to pass the identity of the referring network site from document to document to eventual purchase document accessed by the client through the hypertext tags.

33. A method for providing customized information over a computer network to a plurality of clients in response to requests from said plurality of clients, each of said clients being associated with at least one of a plurality of classes, said method comprising:
-
storing first data being associated with said requests such that it is available over said network; storing second data associated with said classes such that it is available over said network; receiving a request over said network from a requesting client; automatically identifying at least one of said plurality of classes to which said requesting client is associated with; selecting a portion of said first data associated with said received request and a portion of said second data associated with said identified at least one class; and
,transmitting said selected portions of said first and second data as a single transmission sequence and in a format including hypertext protocol and tagging conventions to enable display of a complete and customized electronic document upon receipt of said transmission.
