1. A amplifier circuit comprising:

  • an amplifier for receiving an input signal and providing an output signal;

    a variable current source connected to the amplifier for receiving at least one control signal and providing a bias current to the amplifier in response to the at least one control signal;

    the variable current source comprising;

    a first active device for receiving a first control signal and providing the bias current in response to the first control signal a second active device connected in series with the first active device, the second active device receiving a second control signal;

    wherein the bias current is provided in response to the first and second control signal a resistor is connected in series with the first active device; and

    further wherein the bias current is adjusted based on a required performance of the amplifier.
