Intracardiac defibrillation leads
First Claim
1. An implantable electrical lead, comprising:
- an elongated insulative lead body having a proximal end and a distal end;
a defibrillation electrode comprising a plurality of conductive filaments extending distally from the lead body at a first point between the proximal and distal ends of the lead body and having free distal ends unattached to the lead body;
a cardiac pacing electrode located at the distal end of the lead body;
provided with means for fixing the pacing electrode to heart tissue;
first conductor means coupled to the pacing electrode and extending proximally within the lead body, for coupling the pacing electrode to an implantable cardioverter or defibrillator; and
second conductor means coupled to the defibrillation electrode and extending proximally within the lead body, for coupling the defibrillation electrode to an implantable cardioverter or defibrillator.

Abstract
A lead and a lead system for dispersion of a cardioversion/defibrillation electrode formed of one or more small diameter defibrillation electrodes in a heart chamber and for attaching a pace/sense electrode in contact with the heart. The small diameter defibrillation electrode or electrodes extend distally from the distal end of the lead body. If multiple electrodes are employed, they are preferably biased to spread apart when unrestrained and have a cross-section size small enough to be inserted into interstices of trabeculae in the ventricular chamber. The distal ends of the defibrillation electrodes may be free of attachment to the lead body or may be attached by a weak bond to the distal portion of the lead.

8. An implantable electrical lead, comprising:
-
an elongated insulative lead body having a proximal end and a distal end;
a defibrillation electrode comprising a plurality of conductive filament extending distally from the lead body at a first point between the proximal and distal ends of the lead body and having distal ends removably attached to the lead body at a second point distal to the first point, the distal ends removable by means of proximal traction applied to the conductive filaments;
a cardiac pacing electrode located at the distal end of the lead body;
provided with means for fixing the pacing electrode to heart tissue;
first conductor means coupled to the pacing electrode and extending proximally within the lead body, for coupling the pacing electrode to an implantable cardioverter or defibrillator; and
second conductor means coupled to the defibrillation electrode and extending proximally within the lead body, for coupling the defibrillation electrode to an implantable cardioverter or defibrillator, the second conductor means mounted slidably within the lead body whereby proximal traction applied to the second conductor means causes removal of the distal ends of the conductive filaments from the lead body. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13)
