1. A system for providing an interface between a client device in a computer network and a telephone switching system (TSS) which controls telephone connections over a public switched telephone network (PSTN) using switching commands conforming to PSTN protocols, said telephone switching system having a system management interface, said interface-providing system comprising:

  • a network server for receiving user commands from the client device through the computer network, said user commands conforming to standard client/server communication network protocols; and

    a protocol processor connecting said network server and the telephone switching system through the system management interface of said telephone switching system, said protocol processor converting user commands into corresponding switching system commands conforming to TSS protocols.
