1. A nail polish kit for mammalian nails comprising:

  • (I) a basecoat composition comprising;

    (a) from about 0.1 % to about 20%, by weight of the composition, of a water-insoluble film-forming polyurethane polymer; and

    (b) a liquid diluent comprising;

    (i) from about 10% to about 90%, by weight of the composition, of a volatile organic solvent; and

    (ii) at least about 8%, by weight of the composition, water; and

    (II) a topcoat composition comprising;

    from about 0.1% to about 40%, by weight of the composition, of a water-insoluble, film-forming, water-borne polymer selected from the group consisting of polyacryls, polymethacryls, styrene-acryl copolymers, and mixtures thereof; and

    at least about 30%, by weight of the composition, water.
