Abstract

The invention relates to a nutritional intervention composition that enhances and extends satiety in a calorically efficient manner. In particular, the invention contains protein, long chain fatty acids, calcium, soluble and insoluble fibers to stimulate CCK and prevent its subsequent inactivation and inhibition. By stimulating CCK and extending satiety the method is useful for the treatment of overweight individuals, individuals with Type II diabetes and individuals with bulimia.

Claims

1. A nutritional intervention composition taken before or during a meal for enhancing and extending post meal satiety by stimulating cholecystokinin (CCK) levels in a calorically efficient manner for reducing weight, comprising:

a) a protein selected from the group consisting of casein, whey and soy being in the range of 1.0 to 4.0 grams by weight of said composition;

b) a glycomacropeptide being in the range of 0.03 to 1.00 grams by weight of said composition;

c) long chain fatty acids (C₁₂ to C₁₈) being in the range of 3.0 to 9.0 grams by weight of said composition;

d) a combination of soluble fibers and insoluble fibers for binding bile acids and bile acid salts being in the range of 1.50 to 7.00 grams by weight of said composition; and

e) wherein the total weight of said composition being in the range of 7.395 to 26.65 grams.

2. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said soluble fibers are selected from the group consisting of guar, glucomannan, potato and sugar beet.

3. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 2, wherein said soluble fibers are in the range of 1.0 to 4.0 grams by weight of said composition.

4. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said insoluble fibers are selected from the group consisting of alfalfa, cholestyramine and potato.

5. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 4, wherein said insoluble fibers are in the range of 0.50 to 3.00 grams by weight of said composition.

6. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said long chain fatty acids (C₁₂ to C₁₈) include oleic acid being in the range of 1.0 to 4.0 grams by weight of said composition.

A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, further including a flavor component for imparting a characteristic taste to said nutritional intervention composition selected from the group consisting of water soluble, natural or artificial extracts that include apple, banana, cherry, cinnamon, cranberry, grape, honeydew, honey, kiwi, lemon, lime, orange, peach, peppermint, pineapple, raspberry tangerine, watermelon, wild cherry and equivalents thereof;

being in the range of 1.10 to 3.00 grams by weight of said composition.

8. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, further including an emulsifier for keeping said nutritional intervention composition in suspension when combined with water being in the range of 0.20 to 0.40 grams by weight of said composition.

9. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 8, wherein said emulsifier is lecithin.

10. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, further including a carbohydrate being in the range of 0.50 to 1.50 grams by weight of said composition.

11. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 10, wherein said carbohydrate is maltodextrin.

12. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, further including an artificial sweetener being in the range of 0.015 to 0.60 grams by weight of said composition.

13. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 12, wherein said artificial sweetener is aspartame.

14. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, further including calcium in the form of calcium carbonate or calcium lactate being in the range of 0.05 to 0.15 grams.

15. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said composition has a caloric content of 31.12 to 101 calories.

16. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said composition is in the form of a dry powder.

17. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said composition is part of a liquid drink.

18. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said composition is part of a bar.

19. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said composition is taken before a meal is consumed.

20. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said composition is taken during the consumption of a meal.

21. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 1, wherein said composition is a food additive to other foods.

22. A nutritional composition in accordance with claim 21, wherein said food additive is added to foods selected from the group consisting of yogurt, jello, apple sauce, cottage cheese, cereal, bread, and candy bars.

23. A nutritional composition in accordance with claim 21, wherein said food additive is added to drinks selected from the group consisting of apple juice, orange juice, grape juice, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice, coffee, tea, milk, milkshakes, broth, and soup consomme.

24. A nutritional intervention composition taken before or during a meal for enhancing and extending post meal satiety for reducing weight, comprising:

a) a protein selected from the group consisting of casein, whey and soy being in the range of 1.0 to 4.0 grams by weight of said composition;

b) a glycomacropeptide being in the range of 0.03 to 1.00 grams by weight of said composition;

c) long chain fatty acids (C₁₂ to C₁₈) other than oleic acid being in the range of 2.0 to 5.0 grams by weight of said composition;

d) oleic acid being in the range of 1.0 to 4.0 grams of weight of said composition;

e) soluble fibers for binding bile acids and bile salts being in the range of 1.0 to 4.0 grams by weight of said composition;

f) insoluble fibers for binding bile acids and bile salts being in the range of 0.5 to 3.0 grams by weight of said composition; and

g) wherein the total weight of said composition is in the range of 7.395 to 26.65 grams.

25. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 24, wherein said glycomacropeptide is an hydrolystate of casein.

26. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 24, wherein said soluble fibers are selected from the group consisting of guar, glucomannan, potato and sugar beet.

27. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 24, wherein said insoluble fibers are selected from the group consisting of alfalfa, cholestyramine, and potato.

28. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 24, further including a flavor component for imparting a characteristic taste to said nutritional intervention composition selected from the group consisting of water soluble, natural or artificial extracts that include, apple, banana, cherry, cinnamon, cranberry, grape, honeydew, honey, kiwi, lemon, lime, orange, peach, peppermint, pineapple, raspberry tangerine, watermelon, wild cherry and equivalents thereof;

being in the range of 1.10 to 3.00 grams by weight of said composition.

29. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 24, further including an emulsifier for keeping said nutritional intervention composition in suspension when combined with water being in the range of 0.20 to 0.40 grams by weight of said composition.

30. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 29, wherein said emulsifier is lecithin.

31. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 24, further including a carbohydrate being in the range of 0.50 to 1.50 grams by weight of said composition.

32. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 31, wherein said carbohydrate is maltodextrin.

33. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 24, further including an artificial sweetener being in the range of 0.015 to 0.60 grams by weight of said composition.

34. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 33, wherein said artificial sweetener is aspartame.

35. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 24, further including calcium in the form of calcium carbonate or calcium lactate being in the range of 0.05 to 0.15 grams.

36. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 24, wherein said composition has a caloric content of 31.12 to 101 calories.

37. A nutritional intervention composition taken before or during a meal for enhancing and extending post meal satiety by stimulating cholecystokinin (CCK) levels in a calorically efficient manner for reducing weight, comprising:

a) a protein selected from the group consisting of casein, whey and soy being in the range of 4.23% to 38.48% by weight of said composition;

b) a glycomacropeptide being in the range of 0.12% to 11.95% by weight of said composition,

c) long chain fatty acids (C₁₂ to C₁₈) being in the range of 14.53% to 67.19% by weight of said composition; and

d) a combination of soluble fibers and insoluble fibers for binding bile acids and bile acid salts being in the range of 7.09% to 54.28% by weight of said composition.

38. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said soluble fibers are selected from the group consisting of guar, glucomannan, potato and sugar beet.

39. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said insoluble fibers are selected from the group consisting of alfalfa, cholestyramine and potato.

40. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said long chain fatty acids (C₁₂ to C₁₈) include oleic acid being in the range of 4.23% to 38.48% by weight of said composition.

41. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 39, further including a flavor component for imparting a characteristic taste to said nutritional intervention composition being in the range of 4.44% to 32.28%.

42. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, further including an emulsifier for keeping said nutritional intervention composition in suspension when combined with water being in the range of 0.76% to 5.27% by weight of said composition.

43. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 42, wherein said emulsifier is lecithin.

44. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, further including a carbohydrate being in the range of 1.95% to 17.87% by weight of said composition.

45. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 44, wherein said carbohydrate is maltodextrin.

46. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, further including an artificial sweetener being in the range of 0.06% to 7.52% by weight of said composition.

47. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 46, wherein said artificial sweetener is aspartame.

48. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, further including calcium in the form of calcium carbonate or calcium lactate being in the range of 0.19% to 2.00%.

49. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said composition has a caloric content of 31.12 to 101 calories.

50. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said composition is in the form of a dry powder.

51. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said composition is part of a liquid drink.

52. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said composition is part of a bar.

53. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said composition is taken before a meal is consumed.

54. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said composition is taken during the consumption of a meal.

55. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein said composition is a food additive to other foods.

56. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 55, wherein said food additive is added to foods selected from the group consisting of yogurt, jello, apple sauce, cottage cheese, cereal, bread, and candy bars.

57. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 55, wherein said food additive is added to drinks selected from the group consisting of apple juice, orange juice, grape juice, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice, coffee, tea, milk, milkshakes, broth, and soup consomme.

58. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 37, wherein the total weight of said composition is in the range of 7.395 grams to 26.65 grams.

59. A nutritional composition taken before or during a meal for enhancing and extending post meal satiety by stimulating cholecystokinin (CCK) levels in a calorically efficient manner for reducing weight, comprising;

a) a protein selected from the group consisting of casein, whey and soy being in the range of 4.23% to 38.48% by weight of said composition;

b) a glycomacropeptide being in the range of 0.12% to 11.95% by weight of said composition;

c) long chain fatty acids (C₁₂ to C₁₈) other than oleic acid being in the range of 8.46% to 48.10% by weight of said composition;

d) oleic acid being in the range of 4.23% to 38.48% of weight of said composition;

e) soluble fibers for binding bile acids and bile salts being in the range 4.23% to 38.48% by weight of said composition; and

f) insoluble fibers for binding bile acids and bile salts being in the range of 2.07% to 30.32% by weight of said composition.

60. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, wherein said glycomacropeptide is an hydrolysate of casein.

61. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, wherein said soluble fibers are selected from the group consisting of guar, glucomannan, potato and sugar beet.

62. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, wherein said insoluble fibers are selected from the group consisting of alfalfa, cholestyramine and potato.

63. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, further including a flavor component for imparting a characteristic taste to said nutritional intervention composition being in the range of 4.44% to 32.28%.

64. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, further including an emulsifier for keeping said nutritional intervention composition in suspension when combined with water being in the range of 0.76% to 5.27% by weight of said composition.

65. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 64, wherein said emulsifier is lecithin.

66. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, further including a carbohydrate being in the range of 1.95% to 17.87% by weight of said composition.

67. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 66, wherein said carbohydrate is maltodextrin.

68. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, further including an artificial sweetener being in the range of 0.06% to 7.52% by weight of said composition.

69. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 68, wherein said artificial sweetener is aspartame.

70. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, further including calcium in the form of calcium carbonate or calcium lactate being in the range of 0.19% to 2.00%.

71. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, wherein said composition has a caloric content of 31.12 to 101 calories.

72. A nutritional intervention composition in accordance with claim 59, wherein the total weight of said composition is in the range of 7.395 grams to 26.65 grams.
