Establishing calls and processing on-going calls in fixes and cellular networks
First Claim
1. A method for establishing a call path from a calling party to a called party at the called party'"'"'s fixed telephone number utilizing the functionality of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the Cellular Network (CN) both locally provided by the same service provider, the PSTN including a central office (CO) serving the called party, the CN including a mobile switching center (MSC) serving the called party, the method comprising the steps ofstoring a routing table in the serving CO to special-handle an incoming call to the called party, when the calling party initiates the incoming call to the called party, directing the incoming call to the MSC as a special-handled call as determined from the routing table, initiating a special-handled outgoing call from the MSC to the called party through the serving CO using the fixed telephone number, processing the outgoing call as a special-handled call by the serving CO, and when the called party answers the outgoing call, switching the MSC to interconnect the incoming call with the outgoing call to thereby establish the call path.

Abstract
A cellular-fixed call forwarding service is effected by introducing a Fixed-Cellular Mobility Agent (FCMA) into the cellular network, the FCMA having the functionality of a PSTN central office/CN mobile switching center for interconnecting incoming calls to the MSC as outgoing calls to the CN or the PSTN and which, in addition, monitors each call connection to carry out call forwarding between the CN and the PSTN. The PSTN and the CN are both provided locally by the same service provider.

1. A method for establishing a call path from a calling party to a called party at the called party'"'"'s fixed telephone number utilizing the functionality of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the Cellular Network (CN) both locally provided by the same service provider, the PSTN including a central office (CO) serving the called party, the CN including a mobile switching center (MSC) serving the called party, the method comprising the steps of
storing a routing table in the serving CO to special-handle an incoming call to the called party, when the calling party initiates the incoming call to the called party, directing the incoming call to the MSC as a special-handled call as determined from the routing table, initiating a special-handled outgoing call from the MSC to the called party through the serving CO using the fixed telephone number, processing the outgoing call as a special-handled call by the serving CO, and when the called party answers the outgoing call, switching the MSC to interconnect the incoming call with the outgoing call to thereby establish the call path.

3. A method for establishing a call path from a calling party to a called party at the called party'"'"'s fixed telephone number utilizing the functionality of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the Cellular Network (CN) both locally provided by the same service provider, the PSTN including a central office (CO) serving the called party, the CN including a mobile switching center (MSC) serving the called party, the method comprising the steps of
storing a routing table in the serving CO to special-handle an incoming call to the called party, configuring a fixed-cellular mobility agent (FCMA) having the functionality of a CO, and coupling the FCMA to the MSC, when the calling party initiates the incoming call to the called party, directing the incoming call to the FCMA via the MSC as a special-handled call as determined with reference to the routing table, initiating a special-handled outgoing call from the FCMA to the called party through the serving CO using the fixed telephone number, processing the outgoing call as a special-handled call by the serving CO, and when the called party answers the outgoing call, switching the FCMA to interconnect the incoming call with the outgoing call to thereby establish the call path.

5. A method for establishing a call path from a calling party to a called party at the callde party'"'"'s fixed telephone number utilizing the functionality of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the Cellular Network (CN) both locally provided by the same service provider, the PSTN including a central office (CO) serving the called party, the CN including a mobile switching center (MSC) serving the called party, the method comprising the steps of
storing a routing table in the serving CO to special-handle an incoming call to the called party, when the calling party initiates the incoming call to the called party, identifying the incoming call as a special-handled call by referencing the routing table, directing the incoming call to the MSC as a special-handled call, initiating a special-handled outgoing call from the MSC to the called party through the serving CO using the fixed telephone number, processing the outgoing call as a special-handled call by the serving CO, alerting the called party to the outgoing call, and when the called party answers the outgoing call, switching the MSC to interconnect the incoming call with the outgoing call to thereby establish the call path.

7. A method for establishing a call path from a calling party to a called party at the called party'"'"'s fixed telephone number utilizing the functionality of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the Cellular Network (CN) both locally provided by the same service provider, the PSTN including a central office (CO) serving the called party, the CN including a mobile switching center (MSC) serving the called party, the method comprising the steps of
storing a routing table in the serving CO to special-handle an incoming call to the called party, configuring a fixed-cellular mobility agent (FCMA) having the functionality of a CO, and coupling the FCMA to the MSC, when the calling party initiates the incoming call to the called party, identifying the incoming call as a special-handled call by referencing the routing table, directing the incoming call to the FCMA via the MSC as a special-handled call, initiating a special-handled outgoing call from the FCMA to the called party through the serving CO using the called party'"'"'s fixed telephone number, processing the outgoing call as a special-handled call by the serving CO, alerting the called party to the outgoing call, and when the called party answers the outgoing call, switching the FCMA to interconnect the incoming call with the outgoing call to thereby establish the call path.
