1. A combination comprising:
- a drill bit for creating a bore within a bone including;
an elongated cutting shaft for creating the bore, the cutting shaft having an axis of rotation, a distal end, a proximal end, and cutting edges extending between the distal end and the proximal end;
a cutting tip attached to the distal end of the cutting shaft for piercing the bone;
a conically shaped countersink attached to the proximal end of the cutting shaft; and
a coupling shaft attached to the cutting shaft, wherein the conically shaped countersink is intermediate the cutting shaft and the coupling shaft, the coupling shaft being collinear with the axis of rotation of the cutting shaft; and
a device for providing fluid access to bone marrow including;
an elongated tubular conduit configured for insertion into the bore, the elongated tubular conduit having a conduit distal end, a conduit proximal end, and threads extending therealong, the threads being radially dimensioned to fit tightly with the bore;
a head attached to the conduit proximal end; and
a membrane attached to the head, the membrane configured for repeated reception of a needle.

Abstract
A method and device for use in delivering or withdrawing fluid to or from the vascular system of bone marrow, wherein a tubular conduit is inserted into bone and fluid is delivered or withdrawn to or from a reservoir through a seal means surrounding a head attached to one end of the conduit in communication with bone marrow at the opposite end of the conduit. Access to bone marrow is achieved by implanting an improved intramedullary catheter of the present device within a bone and creating a reusable passage via a conduit placed between bone marrow and the outer surface of bone or skin.
