1. A process of forming a coating on a solid substrate, comprising:

  • providing a dry, free-flowing powder of a curable material, depositing said curable material on a surface of said substrate to form a layer, heating said layer sufficiently to cause said powder to melt, compressing said layer by pressing it against said substrate by use of a flexible membrane which confines said powder until it has melted and achieved a viscosity sufficient to resist migration on the substrate surface, and fully curing said layer to form said coating on said substrate.
