Abstract
Disclosed is a delivery device for controllably delivering a prosthetic bulking device below a tissue surface such as below the mucosa to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease. The delivery device may be embodied in a deployment catheter, an endoscope, or an endoscope attachment. The bulking device cooperates with residual lower esophageal sphincter (LES) function to increase LES closing pressure. Methods are also disclosed.

lifting tissue a predetermined distance away from a plane of the surface to create a low pressure zone beneath the tissue;
injecting a first volume of flowable media into the low pressure zone so that the media takes on a shape which is influenced by the low pressure zone; and

limiting lateral advance of the tissue into the device by contacting the tissue with a limiting surface within the device; and

drawing tissue into the concavity; and
advancing a prosthesis out of the distal end of the delivery lumen and through the tissue surface.

an elongate flexible body having a proximal end, a distal end and a tissue stabilizer near the distal end;
a tubular cannula, having a sharpened distal end, positioned within the body, the cannula axially movable such that the sharpened distal end can penetrate tissue stabilized by the stabilizer; and
a plunger movably positioned within the cannula for ejecting a bulking agent positioned within the cannula;
