1. A heat engine comprising:
- (a) inner and outer spaced apart longitudinally extending walls, each wall having an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner wall surrounding a cavity, each of the inner and outer wall having longitudinally spaced apart first and second ends, the first end is at a different temperature than the second end when the heat engine is in use, the first and second ends in fluid flow communication via a passageway, the first and second ends and the passageway defining a sealed region; and
, (b) a heat exchanger mounted on a portion of one of the walls, the heat exchanger comprising at least one fin extending around the portion of the wall and having first and second opposed sides and a plurality of main directing members, the fin configured and arranged to produce a main flow of fluid which flows through the fin and to produce a secondary fluid flow which passes through the main directing members whereby the heat transfer between the fluid and the heat exchanger is enhanced.

Abstract
A heat engine is constructed from sheet metal and the like. The heat engine has an outer container and inner container which contains a displacer and a power piston. A plurality of positioning members are provided to dimensionally stabilize the inner and outer containers. By providing positioning members that extend between the inner and the outer containers, a sandwiched construction is obtained which allows the inner and outer containers to reinforce each other thus permitting the use of thin walled containers and improving the thermal efficiency of the heat engine and decreasing the weight of the heat engine.

31. A heat engine comprising:
-
(a) outer container means having an outer surface;
(b) inner container means having a longitudinally extending axis and positioned inside the outer container means, the inner container means having first and second longitudinally spaced apart ends;
(c) fluid conduit means for connecting the first and second ends in fluid flow communication; and
,(d) heat exchanger means mounted on at least one of the container means and having fin means and a first end and a second end, the fin means having first and second opposed sides and first directing means for generating a main flow of fluid through the fin means as the fluid flows from the first end to the second end and secondary directing means for generating a secondary fluid flow which passes through at least some of the first directing means whereby the heat transfer between the fluid and the heat exchanger means is enhanced. - View Dependent Claims (32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37)
