Abstract

A output device generates a PN code string every second chip interval with reference to the video sync signal, and spectrally spreads additional information using this PN code string. The spectrally spread additional information is superimposed on the video signal every second chip interval and output. Upon receiving the video signal, in the recording device for recording the video signal on a recording medium, the video signal components cancel each other between the video signal component in the chip interval on which the additional information is superimposed and the video signal component in the chip interval on which the additional information is not superimposed because of the correlation of the video signal in the horizontal direction, and only the additional information is extracted.

Claims

1. A detecting method for extracting additional information from a signal on which said additional information is embedded every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of N (N≧

1) chips of a first code used for embedding said additional information, comprising the steps of;

generating a second code having a same value as said first code;

extracting the additional information embedded on said signal using the second code having a same value as said first code used for embedding said additional information for a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded during said signal interval composed of unit intervals of N chips of said first code, and using said second code having an opposite polarity to that of said first code used for embedding of a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded during said video signal interval.

5. The detecting method as claimed in claims 1, 2, 3, or 4, wherein said signal is a video signal and said second code used for extracting said additional information is generated synchronously with a sync signal of said signal.

22. The detecting method as claimed in claims 1, 2, 3, or 4, wherein said additional information is an anti-duplication control information for performing duplication control on said signal on which said additional information is embedded, and said detecting method further comprising the step of

performing duplication control of said signal depending on said additional information extracted from said signal.

23. The detecting method as claimed in claim 5, wherein said sync signal is a vertical sync signal of said signal.

24. The detecting method as claimed in claim 5, wherein said sync signal is a horizontal sync signal is a horizontal sync signal of said signal.

25. The detecting method as claimed in claims 1, 2, 3, or 4, wherein said additional information is information embedded on said signal by performing a spreading process using said code as a spread code, and said extracting step extracts said additional information by performing an inverse spreading process using said second code as a spread code.

26. The detecting method as claimed in claim 25, wherein said spreading process is a spread spectrum process and said inverse spreading process is an inverse spread spectrum process.

2. A detecting method for extracting additional information from a signal on which said additional information is embedded on every second interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of a divided sub-interval formed by dividing a chip interval of a first code used for embedding said additional information into a plurality of divided sub-intervals, comprising the steps of:

generating a second code having a same value and polarity as said first code;

extracting the additional information embedded on said signal using the generated second code having a same value and polarity as that of said first code used for embedding said additional information for a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded during said divided sub-intervals formed by dividing a chip interval of said first code into a plurality of divided sub-intervals, and using said second code having a same value as and an opposite polarity as said first code for embedding of a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded during said divided sub-intervals.

3. A detecting method for extracting additional information from a signal on which said additional information is embedded every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of N (N≧

1) chips of a first code used for embedding said additional information, comprising the steps of;

generating a second code having a same value as said first code;

inverting a polarity of said second code to produce an opposite polarity code;

calculating a difference between a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded and a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded during said signal interval composed of unit intervals of N chips of said first code; and

extracting the additional information embedded on said signal from said difference between said first unit interval and said second unit interval using said second code.

A detecting method for extracting additional information from a signal on which said additional information is embedded on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of a divided sub-interval formed by dividing a chip interval of a first code used for embedding said additional information into a plurality of divided sub-intervals comprising the steps of:

generating a second code having a same value as said first code;

inverting a polarity of said second code to produce an opposite polarity second code;

calculating a difference between a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded and second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded out of said divided sub-intervals formed by dividing a chip interval of said first code; and

extracting said additional information embedded on said signal from said difference between said first unit interval and said second unit interval using said second code.

6. A detecting device for detecting additional information from a signal on which said additional information is embedded every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of N (N≧

1) chips of a first code used for embedding the additional information on the signal, said detecting device comprising;

code generating means for generating a second code having a same value as said first code used for embedding said additional information for a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded, and having an opposite polarity to that of said first code used for embedding for a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded; and

detecting means for extracting said additional information embedded on said signal using said second code.

10. The video signal reception device as claimed in claims 6, 7, 8, or 9, wherein said code generating means generates said second code used for extracting said additional information synchronous with a sync signal of said signal.

11. The detecting device as claimed in claims 6, 7, 8, or 9, wherein said additional information is anti-duplication control information for performing duplication control on said signal having said additional information embedded thereon, and

said detecting device further comprises duplication control means for performing duplication control of said signal depending on said additional information extracted by said detecting means.

27. The detecting device as claimed in claim 10, wherein said sync signal is a vertical sync signal of said signal.

28. The detecting device as claimed in claim 10, wherein said sync signal is a horizontal sync signal of said signal.

The detecting device as claimed in claims 6, 7, 8, or 9, wherein said additional information is information embedded on said signal by performing a spreading process using said code as a spread code, and said detecting means extracts said additional information by performing an inverse spreading process using said second code as a spread code.

30. The detecting device as claimed in claim 29, wherein said spreading process is a spread spectrum process and said inverse spreading process is an inverse spread spectrum process.

7. A detecting device for detecting additional information from a signal on which said additional information is embedded on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of a divided sub-interval formed by dividing a chip interval of a first code used for embedding into a plurality of divided sub-intervals, said detecting device comprising:

code generating means for generating a second code having a same value as said first code used for embedding said additional information for a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded, and having a same value as and an opposite polarity to that of said first code for a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded; and

means for extracting said additional information embedded on said signal by using said second code.

8. A detecting device for detecting additional information that is embedded on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of N (N≧

1) chips of a first code used for embedding said additional information on said signal, said detecting device comprising;

calculating means for calculating a difference between a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded and a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded;

code generating means for generating a second code identical to said first code used for embedding said additional information on said signal; and

detecting means for extracting said additional information embedded on said signal from a result from said calculating means using said second code.

A detecting device for detecting additional information that is embedded on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of a divided sub-interval formed by dividing a chip interval of a first code used for embedding into a plurality of divided sub-intervals, said detecting device comprising:

calculating means for calculating a difference between a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded and a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded;

code generating means for generating a second code identical to said first code used for embedding said additional information; and

detecting means for extracting said additional information embedded on said signal based on a result from said calculating means using said second code.

12. An additional information embedding/detecting system comprising signal output device for embedding additional information on a signal and outputting said signal, and a detecting device for detecting said additional information from said signal output from said signal output device,

said signal output device comprising:

first code generating means for generating a first code for embedding additional information on said signal;

embedding means for embedding said additional information using said first code on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of N (N≧

1) chips of said first code; and

output means for outputting a signal containing said additional information; and

said detecting device comprising;

second code generating means for generating a second code having a same value as said first code used for embedding said additional information for a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded, and having an opposite polarity to that of said first code for a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded; and

detecting means for extracting said additional information embedded on said signal using said second code.

The additional information embedding/detecting system as claimed in claims 12, 13, 14, or 15, wherein said additional information is an anti-duplication control information for performing duplication control of said signal on which said additional information is embedded, and said signal detecting device further comprises duplication control means for performing duplication control of said signal depending on said additional information extracted by said detecting means.

17. The additional information embedding/detecting system as claimed in claims 12, 13, 14, or 15, wherein

said signal is a video signal,

said first code generating means generates said first code synchronous with a sync signal of said video signal, and

said second code generating means generates said second code synchronous with said sync signal of said video signal.

18. The additional information embedding/detecting system as claimed in claim 17, wherein said sync signal is a vertical sync signal of said video signal.

19. The additional information embedding/detecting system as claimed in claim 17, wherein said sync signal is a horizontal sync signal of said video signal.

20. The additional information embedding/detecting system as claimed in claims 12, 13, 14, or 15, wherein

said embedding means embeds said additional information by performing a spreading process using said first code as a spread code, and

said detecting means extracts said additional information by performing an inverse spreading process using said second code as an inverse spread code.

21. The additional information embedding/detecting system as claimed in claim 20, wherein said spreading process is a spread spectrum process and said inverse spreading process is an inverse spread spectrum process.

13. An additional information embedding/detecting system comprising a signal output device for embedding additional information on a signal and outputting said signal, and a signal detecting device for detecting said additional information from said signal output from said signal output device,

said signal output device comprising:

first code generating means for generating a first code for embedding additional information on said signal;

embedding means for embedding said additional information on said signal using said first code on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of a divided sub-interval formed by dividing a chip interval of said first code into a plurality of divided sub-intervals; and

output means for outputting a signal containing said additional information; and

said signal detecting device comprising;

second code generating means for generating a second code having a same value as that of said first code used for embedding said additional information for a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded, and having a same value as and an opposite polarity to those of said first code for a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded; and

means for extracting said additional information embedded on said signal using said second code.

14. An additional information embedding/detecting system comprising a signal output device for embedding additional information on a signal and outputting said signal, and a signal reception detecting device for detecting said additional information from said signal output from said signal output device,

said signal output device comprising:

first code generating means for generating a first code for embedding an additional information on said signal;

embedding means for embedding said additional information on said signal using said first code on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of N (N≧

1) chips of said first code; and

output means for outputting a signal containing said additional information; and

said detecting device comprising;

subtraction means for calculating a difference between a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded and a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded;

second code generating means for generating a second code identical to said first code used for embedding said additional information on said signal; and

detecting means for extracting said additional information embedded on said signal using said second code generated by said code generating means.

15. An additional information embedding/detecting system comprising a signal output device for embedding additional information on a signal and outputting said signal, and a detecting device for detecting said additional information from said signal output device,

said signal output device comprising:

first code generating means for generating a first code for embedding an additional information on said signal;

embedding means for embedding said additional information on said signal using said first code on every second interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of a divided sub-interval formed by dividing a chip interval of said first code into a plurality of divided sub-intervals; and

output means for outputting a signal containing said additional information; and

said signal detecting device comprising;

subtraction means for calculating a difference between a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded and a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded;

second code generating means for generating a second code identical to said first code used for embedding said additional information; and

detecting means for extracting said additional information embedded on said signal using said second code generated by said second code generating means.

31. An additional information embedding/detecting method for a system having a signal output device for embedding additional information on a signal and output said signal and a detecting device for detecting said additional signal from said signal output from signal output device, the embedding method comprising the steps of:

generating a first code for embedding additional information on said signal;

embedding said additional information on said signal using first code on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of N (N≧

1) chips of said first code; and

outputting a signal containing said additional information;

the detecting method comprising the steps of;

generating a second code having a same value as said first code used for embedding said additional information for a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded, and having an opposite polarity to that of said first code for a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded; and

extracting said additional information embedded on said signal using said second code.

35. The additional information extracting/detecting method according to claims 31, 32, 33, or 34, wherein said additional information is an anti-duplication control information for performing duplication control of said signal on which said additional information is embedded, and the detecting method comprising the further step of performing duplication control of said signal depending on said additional information detected in said step of detecting.

32. An additional information embedding/detecting method for a system having a signal output device for embedding additional information on a signal and outputting said signal and a detecting device for detecting said additional information from said signal output from said signal output device, the embedding method comprising the steps of:

generating a first code for embedding said additional information on said signal;

embedding said additional information on said signal using said first code on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of a divided sub-interval formed by dividing a chip interval of said first code into a plurality of divided sub-intervals; and

outputting a signal containing said additional information;

the detecting method comprising the steps of;

generating a second code having a same value as said first code used for embedding said additional information for a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded, and having a same value as and an opposite polarity to those of said first code for a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded; and

extracting said additional information embedded on said signal using said second code.

33. An additional information embedding/detecting method for use in a system having an output device for embedding additional information on a signal and outputting said signal, and a detecting device for detecting said additional information from said signal output from said signal output device, the embedding method comprising the steps of:

generating a first code for embedding an additional information on said signal;

embedding said additional information on said signal using said first code on every second unit interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of N (N≧

1) chips of said first code; and

outputting a signal containing said additional information;

the detecting method comprising the steps of;

calculating a difference between a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded and a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded;

generating a second code identical to said first code used for embedding said additional information on said signal;

extracting said additional information embedded on said signal by performing an inversion on the subtraction result from said step of subtracting using said second code.

34. An additional information embedding/detecting method for use in a system having a signal output device for embedding additional information on a signal, and a detecting device for detecting said additional information from said signal output from said signal output device, the embedding method comprising the steps of:

generating a first code for embedding an additional information on said signal;

embedding said additional information on said signal using said first code on every second interval of a signal interval composed of unit intervals of a divided sub-interval formed by dividing a chip of said first code into a plurality of divided sub-intervals; and

outputting a signal containing said additional information;

the detecting method comprising the steps of;

calculating a difference between a first unit interval on which said additional information is embedded and a second unit interval on which said additional information is not embedded;

generating a second code identical to said first code used for embedding said additional information;

detecting said additional information embedded on said signal by performing an inversion on the subtraction result from said step of subtracting using said second code.
