1. An interface circuit for connecting either a first power source or a second power source to a load, comprising:

  • a first switching unit having an open state and a closed state, the first switching unit connecting the load to the first power source when it is in its closed state and isolating the load from the first power source when it is in its open state, the first switching unit being responsive to a first control signal;

    a second switching unit having an open state and a closed state, the second switching unit connecting the load to the second power source when it is in its closed state and isolating the load from the second power source when it is in its open state, the second switching unit being responsive to a second control signal; and

    circuitry interconnecting the first and second switching units to keep them both from being in their closed states simultaneously, even if one of the switching units malfunctions and remains in its closed state without being responsive to its control signal.
