Abstract

An electroluminescence display device has a plurality of electroluminescence elements and a driver circuit formed over a substrate. At least a part of the driver circuit is disposed in a display portion of a substrate in order that the size of the display device can be reduced.

Claims

1. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate;

a plurality of switching thin film transistors provided at respective pixels of the display device over said substrate;

a plurality of current control thin film transistors formed over said substrate wherein each of the current control thin film transistors is switched by the respective switching thin film transistors;

at least one interlayer insulating film formed over said switching thin film transistors and said current control thin film transistors;

a plurality of pixel electrodes formed over said interlayer insulating film, electrically connected to said current control thin film transistors, respectively;

an electroluminescence layer formed on each of said pixel electrodes; and

a driver circuit comprising at least one CMOS circuit,

wherein at least said one CMOS circuit is located below said pixel electrode.

2. The device according to claim 1, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

3. The device according to claim 1, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

4. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display-device comprising:

a substrate having a display portion;

a plurality of electroluminescence elements formed in a display portion of said substrate, each of said elements comprising a cathode, an electroluminescence layer and an anode; and

a driver circuit comprising thin film transistors formed over said substrate,

wherein at least one of said thin film transistors of the driver circuit is disposed in said display portion of the substrate.

5. The device according to claim 4, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

6. The device according to claim 4, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

7. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate;

a plurality of switching thin film transistors provided at respective pixels of the display device over said substrate;

a plurality of current control thin film transistors formed over said substrate wherein each of the current control thin film transistors is switched by the respective switching thin film transistors;

a driver circuit comprising third thin film transistors formed over said substrate;

at least one interlayer insulating film formed over said switching thin film transistors, said current control thin film transistors and said third thin film transistors;

a plurality of pixel electrodes formed over said interlayer insulating film, electrically connected to said current control thin film transistors, respectively; and

an electroluminescence layer formed on each of said pixel electrodes,

wherein at least said one of said third thin film transistors is located below said pixel electrode.

8. The device according to claim 7, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

9. The device according to claim 7, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

10. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate;

at least first and second gate wirings extending in parallel over a substrate;

at least one data signal line extending across said first and second gate wirings; and

at least one current supply line extending in parallel with said data signal line and extending across said gate wirings;

a switching element electrically connected to said first gate wiring and said data signal line;

a current control element electrically connected to said current supply line wherein said current control element is switched by said switching element;

at least one CMOS circuit disposed in a region surrounded by said first and second gate wirings, said data signal line and said current supply line; and

a driver circuit comprising at least said one CMOS circuit.

11. The device according to claim 10, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

12. The device according to claim 10, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

13. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate;

at least first and second gate wirings extending in parallel over a substrate;

at least one data signal line extending across said first and second gate wirings; and

at least one current supply line extending in parallel with said data signal line and extending across said gate wirings wherein a pixel region is defined by a region surrounded by said first and second gate wirings, said data signal line and said current supply line;

at least one first CMOS circuit disposed in said pixel region; and

at least one second CMOS circuit disposed over said substrate adjacent to said pixel region; and

a connecting wiring connecting said first CMOS circuit and said second CMOS circuit, said connecting wiring extending across at least one of said data signal line and said current supply line.

14. The device according to claim 13, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

15. The device according to claim 13, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

16. The device according to claim 13 wherein said connecting wiring is formed from a same layer as gate electrodes of said CMOS circuit.

17. The device according to claim 13 wherein said connecting wiring is formed from a different layer from either of said data signal line and said current supply line.

18. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate having a display portion;

a plurality of switching thin film transistors provided at respective pixels of display portion over said substrate;

a plurality of current control thin film transistors over said substrate wherein each of the current control thin film transistors is switched by the respective switching thin film transistors;

a plurality of electroluminescence elements formed in a display portion of said substrate, each of said elements comprising a cathode, an electroluminescence layer and an anode; and

a driver circuit comprising third thin film transistors formed over said substrate,

wherein at least one of said third thin film transistors of the driver circuit is disposed in said display portion of the substrate.

19. The device according to claim 18, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

20. The device according to claim 18, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

21. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate;

a plurality of switching thin film transistors provided at respective pixels over said substrate;

a plurality of current control thin film transistors over said substrate wherein each of the current control thin film transistors is switched by the respective switching thin film transistors;

at least one interlayer insulating film formed over said switching thin film transistors and said current control thin film transistors;

a plurality of pixel electrodes formed over said interlayer insulating film, electrically connected to said current control thin film transistors;

a shift register comprising a plurality of CMOS circuits; and

a connecting wiring connecting each of said plurality of CMOS circuits,

wherein said plurality of CMOS circuits are located below said pixel electrode, and

wherein said connecting wiring is formed on a same layer as said plurality of CMOS circuits.

22. The device according to claim 21, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

23. The device according to claim 21, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

24. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate;

at least first and second gate wirings extending in parallel over a substrate;

at least one data signal line extending across said first and second gate wirings;

at least one current supply line extending in parallel with said data signal line and extending across said gate wirings;

at least a switching thin film transistor connected with said gate wiring and said data signal line;

at least a current control thin film transistor connected with said current supply line wherein said current control thin film transistors is switched by said switching thin film transistors;

a flip-flop circuit in a region surrounded by said first and second gate wirings, said data signal line and said current supply line; and

a connecting wiring connecting with said flip-flop circuit, said connecting wiring extending across said gate wiring,

wherein said connecting wiring is formed on a different layer from either of said data signal line and said current supply line.

25. The device according to claim 24, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

26. The device according to claim 24, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

27. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate;

at least first and second gate wirings extending in parallel over a substrate;

at least one data signal line extending across said first and second gate wirings;

at least one current supply line extending in parallel with said data signal line and extending across said gate wirings;

at least first CMOS circuit and second CMOS circuit disposed in a region surrounded by said first and second gate wirings, said data signal line and said current supply line;

at least one first connecting wiring connecting said first CMOS circuit with said second CMOS circuit; and

at least one second connecting wiring connecting said current supply line with one of said first and second CMOS circuit;

wherein said first connecting wiring extends over said data signal line and said current supply line, and

wherein said second connecting wiring extends under said data signal line.

28. The device according to claim 27, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

29. The device according to claim 27, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

30. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate having a display portion;

a plurality of switching thin film transistors provided at respective pixels of display portion over said substrate;

a plurality of current control thin film transistors over said substrate wherein each of the current control thin film transistors is switched by the respective switching thin film transistors;

a plurality of electroluminescence elements formed in a display portion of said substrate, each of said elements comprising a cathode, an electroluminescence layer and an anode; and

a driver circuit comprising thin film transistors formed over said substrate, said driver circuit comprising at least a data signal driving circuit,

wherein at least one of said thin film transistors of the driver circuit is disposed in said display portion of the substrate.

31. The device according to claim 30, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

32. The device according to claim 30, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

33. The device according to claim 30, wherein said data signal driving circuit comprises a shift register, a level shifter, a buffer, a latch, a D/A converter, and a sampling circuit.

34. An electronic device having at least one electroluminescence display device, said display device comprising:

a substrate having a display portion;

a plurality of switching thin film transistors provided at respective pixels of display portion over said substrate;

a plurality of current control thin film transistors over said substrate wherein each of the current control thin film transistors is switched by the respective switching thin film transistors;

a plurality of electroluminescence elements formed in a display portion of said substrate, each of said elements comprising a cathode, an electroluminescence layer and an anode; and

a driver circuit comprising thin film transistors formed over said substrate, said driver circuit comprising at least a gate signal driving circuit,

wherein at least one of said thin film transistors of the driver circuit is disposed in said display portion of the substrate.

35. The device according to claim 34, wherein said device is one of a personal computer, a video camera, a head mount display, an image playback device, and a mobile computer.

36. The device according to claim 34, wherein said electroluminescence display device is an organic electroluminescence display device.

37. The device according to claim 34, wherein said data signal driving circuit comprises a shift register, a level shifter, and a buffer.
