Abstract

Among insulating layers for insulating and separating first wiring lines, second wiring lines, and pixel electrodes constituting a reflection type display device, at least one layer is made of an insulating film in which a carbon-based material or a pigment is dispersed. By this structure, a conventional step of forming a black mask can be greatly simplified.

Claims

1. A reflection type display device comprising:

a substrate;

a TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a light shading film provided over said TFT;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hold provided in said light shading film and provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole; and

a reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film,

wherein a material selected from the group consisting of a carbon-based material and a pigment is dispersed in said light shading film, and

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

17. The device of claim 1 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

29. The device of claim 1 wherein said device is a direct view type display device, and said pixel electrode has a rough surface.

35. The device of claim 1 wherein said device is a projection type display device, and said pixel electrode has a mirror state surface.

2. An electronic device comprising a reflection type display device, said electronic device comprising:

a substrate;

a TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a light shading film provided over said TFT;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film and provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole; and

a reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film,

wherein a material selected from the group consisting of a carbon-based material and a pigment is dispersed in said light shading film, and

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

18. The device of claim 2 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

41. The device of claim 2 wherein said electronic device is a video camera, a still camera, a projector, a head mount display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a portable information terminal or a personal handy phone system.

3. A reflection type display device comprising:

a substrate;

a first TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a second TFT provided over said display part;

a light shading film provided over said first TFT and said second TFT;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film and provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole;

a first reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film and connected with one of source and drain regions of said first TFT through said first contact hole; and

a second reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film and connected with one of source and drain regions of said second TFT through said second contact hole,

wherein a material selected from the group consisting of a carbon-based material and a pigment is dispersed in said light shading film, and

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

19. The device of claim 3 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

30. The device of claim 3 wherein said device is a direct view type display device, and said pixel electrode has a rough surface.

36. The device of claim 3 wherein said device is a projection type display device, and said pixel electrode has a mirror state surface.

4. An electronic device comprising a reflection type display device, said electronic device comprising:

a substrate;

a first TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a second TFT provided over said display part;

a light shading film provided over said first TFT and said second TFT;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film and provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole;

a first reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film and connected with one of source and drain regions of said first TFT through said first contact hole; and

a second reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film and connected with one of source and drain regions of said second TFT through said second contact hole,

wherein a material selected from the group consisting of a carbon-based material and a pigment is dispersed in said light shading film, and

wherein said light shading,film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

20. The device of claim 4 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

42. The device of claim 4 wherein said electronic device is a video camera, a still camera, a projector, a head mount display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a portable information terminal or a personal handy phone system.

5. A reflection type display device comprising:

a substrate;

a TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a light shading film provided over said TFT, said light shading film comprising an organic resin;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film and provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole; and

a reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film,

wherein a material selected from the group consisting of a carbon-based material and a pigment is dispersed in said organic resin of said light shading film, and

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

13. The device of claim 5 wherein said organic resin layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyimide amide and acryl.

21. The device of claim 5 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

31. The device of claim 5 wherein said device is a direct view type display device, and said pixel electrode has a rough surface.

37. The device of claim 5 wherein said device is a projection type display device, and said pixel electrode has a mirror state surface.

6. An electronic device comprising a reflection type display device, said electronic device comprising:

a substrate;

a TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a light shading film provided over said TFT, said light shading film comprising an organic resin;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film and provided adjacent to said first contact hole with space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole; and

a reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film,

wherein a material selected from the group consisting of a carbon-based material and a pigment is dispersed in said organic resin of said light shading film, and

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said pace between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

14. The device of claim 6 wherein said organic resin layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyimide amide and acryl.

22. The device of claim 6 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

43. The device of claim 6 wherein said electronic device is a video camera, a still camera, a projector, a head mount display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a portable information terminal or a personal handy phone system.

7. A reflection type display device comprising:

a substrate;

a first TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a second TFT provided over said display part;

a light shading film provided over said first TFT and said second TFT, said light shading film comprising an organic resin;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film and provided adjacent to said first contact hole with space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole; and

a first reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film and connected with one of source and drain regions of said first TFT through said first contact hole; and

a second reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film and connected with one of source and drain regions of said second TFT through said second contact hole,

wherein a material selected from the group consisting of a carbon-based material and a pigment is dispersed in said organic resin of said light shading film, and

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

15. The device of claim 7 wherein said organic resin layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyimide amide and acryl.

23. The device of claim 7 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

32. The device of claim 7 wherein said device is a direct view type display device, and said pixel electrode has a rough surface.

38. The device of claim 7 wherein said device is a projection type display device, and said pixel electrode has a mirror state surface.

8. An electronic device comprising a reflection type display device, said electronic device comprising:

a substrate;

a first TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a second TFT provided over said display part;

a light shading film provided over said first TFT and said second TFT, said light shading film comprising an organic resin;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film and provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole; and

a first reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film and connected with one of source and drain regions of said first TFT through said first contact hole; and

a second reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film and connected with one of source and drain regions of said second TFT through said second contact hole,

wherein a material selected from the group consisting of a carbon-based material and a pigment is dispersed in said organic resin of said light shading film, and

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

16. The device of claim 8 wherein said organic resin layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyimide amide and acryl.

24. The device of claim 8 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

44. The device of claim 8 wherein said electronic device is a video camera, a still camera, a projector, a head mount display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a portable information terminal or a personal handy phone system.

9. A reflection type display device comprising:

a substrate;

a TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a light shading film provided over said TFT;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film, said second contact hole provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole; and

a reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film,

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said pace between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

25. The device of claim 9 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

33. The device of claim 9 wherein said device is a direct view type display device, and said pixel electrode has a rough surface.

39. The device of claim 9 wherein said device is a projection type display device, and said pixel electrode has a mirror state surface.

10. An electronic device comprising a reflection type display device, said electronic device comprising:

a substrate;

a TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a light shading film provided over said TFT;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film, said second contact hole provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole; and

a reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film,

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

26. The device of claim 10 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

45. The device of claim 10 wherein said electronic device is a video camera, a still camera, a projector, a head mount display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a portable information terminal or a personal handy phone system.

11. A reflection type display device comprising:

a substrate;

a first TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a second TFT provided over said display part;

a light shading film provided over said first TFT and said second TFT;

a first contact hole provide in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film, said second contact hole provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole;

a first reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film, said first reflective pixel electrode connected with one of source and drain regions of said first TFT through said first contact hole; and

a second reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film, said second reflective pixel electrode connected with one of source and drain regions of said second TFT trough said second contact hole,

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

27. The device of claim 11 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

34. The device of claim 11 wherein said device is a direct view type display device, and said pixel electrode has a rough surface.

40. The device of claim 11 wherein said device is a projection type display device, and said pixel electrode has a mirror state surface.

12. An electronic device comprising a reflection type display device, said electronic device comprising:

a substrate;

a first TFT provided over a display part of said substrate;

a second TFT provided over said display part;

a light shading film provided over said first TFT and said second TFT;

a first contact hole provided in said light shading film;

a second contact hole provided in said light shading film, said second contact hole provided adjacent to said first contact hole with a space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole;

a first reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film, said first reflective pixel electrode connected with one of source and drain regions of said first TFT through said first contact hole; and

a second reflective pixel electrode provided over said light shading film, said second reflective pixel electrode connected with one of source and drain regions of said second TFT trough said second contact hole,

wherein said light shading film occupies all of said space between said second contact hole and said first contact hole.

28. The device of claim 12 wherein said TFT comprises a gate electrode comprising a material selected from the group consisting of aluminum, tantalum, molybdenum and tungsten.

46. The device of claim 12 wherein said electronic device is a video camera, a still camera, a projector, a head mount display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a portable information terminal or a personal handy phone system.
