7. The device as claimed in claim 6, wherein the positional information and identification information of the base stations, and period and frequency information of the tone signals are transmitted over a common control channel.

a tone generator for generating the tone signal;
a carrier frequency generator for modulating the tone signal;
a mixer for mixing the tone signal with the carrier frequency; and
an up-converter for converting an output of the mixer to a frequency band suitable for radio transmission.

9. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base stations each periodically transmit their tone signals at different time points.

10. A method for tracking a mobile station'"'"'s position in a mobile communication system, comprising the steps of:

receiving tone signals from at least three base stations, and positional information of the base stations from a service base station;
measuring phase differences, dependent on propagation delay, of the tone signals on the basis of a base station'"'"'s system reference time before propagation delay; and
