1. A method for locating a metal line, comprising:

  • coupling of a transmitted signal into the line, the transmitted signal including a first signal having a carrier frequency modulated with a second signal having a lower frequency than the carrier frequency;

    receiving a received signal radiated by the line at a receiving antenna; and

    evaluating the received signal with regard to its period and its polarity, which is dependent on the orientation of the receiving antenna relative to the line, in order to generate a signaling of “

    outgoing transmitted signal”

    or “

    incoming transmitted signal”

    with regard to the direction of the signal flow in the line.
