1. An organic electroluminescent display device that displays a preformed image, comprising:

  • a) a single anode and a single cathode electrode spaced from each other;

    b) organic electrically conductive hole transport layer and c) a preformed patterned image layer disposed between the hole transport and electron transport layers and having different units formed of different color luminescent species which emit light in different areas of the spectrum to provide multicolor to a preformed image such that when a voltage is applied across the anode and cathode, electrodes cause a multicolor preformed patterned image to be displayed; and

    d) means for applying a voltage to the anode and cathode electrodes to cause the emission of light to display the preformed patterned image.
