Method and system for message transfer session management
First Claim
1. A method of monitoring an operating state of computers in a message queuing system, comprising the steps of:
- sending, at one time, a plurality of echo request messages to a plurality of respective computers in the message queuing system;
delivering asynchronously the echo request messages to the respective computers in the message queuing system;
generating, by one of the computers in the message queuing system, an echo response message after receiving a respective echo request message;
delivering the echo response message to a response queue;
providing an indicia on a video display for indicating an in-operation state of said one of the computers in the message queuing system.

Abstract
A method and system for managing the transfer of message packets between first and second nodes in a message queuing system utilizes a session acknowledgment protocol to coordinate the two-way flow of packet transmission. In a session initiation phase, each node specifies a session acknowledgment timeout period and a transmission window size for transmission of message packets thereto. During the session, the first node transmits multiple message packets up to the window size set by the second node and stops to wait for a session acknowledgment from the second computer. The session acknowledgment may piggyback on a message packet sent to the first node. A window-size field in the session acknowledgment allows the receiving node to dynamically adjust the incoming data flow.

3. A system for monitoring an operating state of computers in a message queuing system, comprising:
-
an originating application on a first computer for sending a plurality of echo request messages to a plurality of respective target computers in the message queuing system through asynchronous delivery;
a request queue on each of the plurality of target computers for receiving a respective echo request message;
a message queue (MQ) server on each of the plurality of target computers for generating an echo response message in response to a respective echo request message;
a response queue on the first computer for receiving echo response messages from the plurality of target computers in the message queuing system; and
an administration application on the first computer for reading an echo response message in the response queue from at least one of the plurality of target computers and providing an indicia for indicating that said at least one target computer is in operation.
