A balloon catheter having a shaft and a balloon associated therewith, the balloon having a proximal end portion, a distal end portion and a central portion, wherein the balloon has a collapsed state in which a surface portion of the central portion is exposed and an expanded state, the balloon catheter further comprising a first lubricious coating on a portion of the shaft and a second coating on at least a portion of the exposed surface of the balloon when the balloon is in its collapsed state, wherein the second coating comprises an adhesive and wherein both ends of the balloon are coated with the first lubricious coating.
