1. A method for publicizing the availability of a new information service on a cable television network comprising the steps of:
- displaying a television schedule guide (EPG) on a monitor;
detecting the presence of a new information service on the network;
displaying an icon in the EPG to signal the presence of the new service only when the new service is detected;
selecting one of the new services from the displayed list; and
responsive to a user command, displaying a description of the selected new service instead of the list of services.

Abstract
