1. A method of making a graphic material, comprising the steps of:

  • making a shim that has a microgroove pattern for forming a negative impression of a hologram and a non-holographic diffraction grating by growing a holographic microgroove pattern from a first microtexture interference pattern; and

    by growing a diffraction microgroove pattern from a second microtexture interference pattern;

    making an embossable blank having the negative image of the hologram and the diffraction grating by (i) impressing the shim holographic microgroove pattern into a first area of the embossable blank with a die;

    (ii) repositioning the die;

    (iii) and impressing the shim diffraction microgroove pattern into a second area of the embossable blank that is co-planer with the first area;

    forming a mater plate, having an image of the hologram and the diffraction grating, from the embossable blank by growing the master plate from the embossable blank with electroplating;

    forming the hologram over a first area of said graphic material by embossing the graphic material with the master plate;

    forming the non-holographic diffraction grating over a second area of said graphic material, separate from, but co-planar with said first area, said steps of forming said hologram and forming said diffraction grating occurring simultaneously via the microembossing of a single surface of the graphic material.
