Abstract

An information display system is disclosed. A work environment providing a work area and a workstation including the information display system are also disclosed. The information display system includes a track system adapted to attach to a mounting structure and a plurality of display panels coupled to the track system for movement with respect to the mounting structure. The display panels are adapted to present information selectively for display by pivotal and translating movement of the plurality of display panels. The track system may include at least one rail. The display panels may be cantilevered away from the track system at a vertical elevation to provide clearance below the display panels for a seated worker. The information display system may include a plurality of containers coupled to the track system for movement with respect to the mounting structure, with each of the plurality of containers is adapted to include at least one display panel. Each of the display panels is adapted to present information and the information can selectively be presented for display by movement of the plurality of containers. Each of the display panels may include at least one display board. A docking area may be positioned along the track system and configured to at least partially conceal at least one of the display panels. A utility threshold may be adapted for movement along a predefined path about the work area to selectively deliver utilities to at least one portion of the work area. The work environment may provide a work space that can be arranged or divided to include at least one work area within the available floor space. In the work area, the display panels may be moved from a first arrangement to at least a second arrangement. The first arrangement allows one worker to use substantially all available floor space; the second arrangement allows a plurality of workers to share the available floor space so as to facilitate the utilization of the floor space by workers present in the work environment.

Claims

1. A work space providing at least one work area, comprising:

at least one rail adapted for mounting on a side of a mounting structure;

a plurality of display panels attached to the rail for movement relative to the mounting structure;

a docking area positioned relative to the rail and configured to shroud at least a portion of the plurality of display panels;

wherein the display panels are adapted to display information and wherein the display panels are movable between a first arrangement wherein at least one of the display panels is shrouded within the docking area and at least one second arrangement wherein the at least one of the display panels is removed from the docking area to selectively reveal at least a portion of information and to selectively conceal at least another portion of information.

2. The work space of claim 1 wherein the display panels are adapted to define a portion of the work area.

3. The work space of claim 1 wherein the display panels aesthetically define a portion of the work area.

4. The work space of claim 1 wherein the display panels physically define a portion of the work area.

5. The work space of claim 1 wherein the mounting structure is transportable.

6. The work space of claim 1 further comprising a wall pivotally mounted to the mounting structure for nesting into the mounting structure.

7. The work space of claim 1 further comprising a partition to secure the docking area.

8. The work space of claim 1 wherein the docking area is an article of furniture.

9. The work space of claim 1 wherein the first arrangement provides a work area for a group of workers.

10. The work space of claim 9 wherein the second arrangement provides at least one work area for an individual worker.

11. The work space of claim 1 wherein the second arrangement provides at least one work area for an individual worker.

12. The work space of claim 1 wherein the second arrangement provides a theatre display of information for a group of workers.

13. A work space providing at least one work area, comprising:

a track system adapted for attachment to a mounting structure;

a plurality of display panels adapted to present information in a work area;

a utility threshold mounted on the track system for movement with respect to the mounting structure;

the utility threshold being associated with the display panels so as to define an envelope of the work area in proximity to the display panels;

the utility threshold being configured to provide utilities to support individual workers positioned in the work area.

14. The work space of claim 13 wherein the plurality of panels are adapted for movement with respect to the track system.

15. The work space of claim 13 wherein the display panels are mounted on the track system.

16. The work space of claim 15 wherein the display panels are adapted for translating movement along the track system.

17. The work space of claim 15 wherein the utility threshold and the display panel are mounted on different rails provided by the track system.

18. The work space of claim 13 wherein the track system is permanently attached to the mounting structure.

19. The work space of claim 13 wherein the mounting structure is a partial height panel wall.

20. The work space of claim 13 further comprising an article of furniture within the work area providing a docking area.

21. The work space of claim 13 further comprising a docking area for the utility threshold.

22. The work space of claim 13 further comprising a docking area for at least a portion of the plurality of display panels.

23. The work space of claim 13 wherein each of the display panels is configured to pivot to a fully open condition.

24. The work space of claim 23 wherein the utility threshold is adapted to provide lighting on at least a portion of the display panels displays to aid viewing by a group of workers outside the work area defined by the threshold.

25. In a fixed floor space work environment adapted to support a group of workers sharing information contained on a plurality of display panels, the improvement comprising:

a panel wrap for at least a portion of the plurality of display panels, the plurality of display panels being cantilevered from and mounted for movement along at least one rail between a first arrangement and at least one second arrangement, the first arrangement allowing one worker to use substantially all available floor space and the second arrangement allowing a plurality of workers to share the available floor space so as to facilitate the utilization of the floor space by workers present in the work environment.

26. The work environment of claim 25 wherein the panel wrap comprises a docking area for stowing at least a portion of the plurality of display panels.

27. The work environment of claim 26 wherein the at least one rail comprises a first rail and a second rail and a utility threshold is mounted on the second rail.

28. The work environment of claim 26 wherein the at least one rail is mounted on a mounting structure.

29. The work environment of claim 28 wherein the plurality of display panels are adapted for pivotal movement with respect to the at least one rail.

30. The work environment of claim 29 wherein at least one display panel includes at least one display board.

31. The work environment of claim 29 wherein the first arrangement provides a first contextual appearance and the second arrangement provides a second contextual appearance.

32. The work environment of claim 31 wherein the docking area provides a space for stowing a mobile article of furniture.

33. The work environment of claim 31 further comprising a container for supporting the display panels.

34. The work environment of claim 31 further comprising a utility threshold coupled to the at least one rail for providing utilities.

35. The work environment of claim 29 wherein the first arrangement provides a first territorial appearance and the second arrangement provides a second territorial appearance.

36. In a fixed floor space work environment adapted to support a group of workers sharing information contained on a plurality of display panels, the improvement comprising:

the plurality of display panels being cantilevered from and mounted for movement along at least one rail between a first arrangement and at least one second arrangement, the first arrangement allowing one worker to use substantially all available floor space and the second arrangement allowing a plurality of workers to share the available floor space so as to facilitate the utilization of the floor space by workers present in the work environment; and

a retractable partition adapted to provide a division of the floor space.

37. The work environment of claim 36 wherein the at least one rail is mounted on a mounting structure.

38. The work environment of claim 37 wherein the mounting structure is a partial height wall.

39. The work environment of claim 37 further comprising at least one container for supporting at least one of the display panels.

40. The work environment of claim 37 wherein each of the plurality of display panels is associated with an information containing structure and at least one work area presents an appearance at least partially defined by the arrangement at least one display panel and by information revealed on the at least one display panel.

41. The work environment of claim 40 wherein the plurality of display panels are adapted for pivotal movement with respect to the at least one rail.

42. The work environment of claim 41 wherein at least one display panel includes at least one display board.

43. The work environment of claim 41 wherein the first arrangement provides a first contextual appearance and the second arrangement provides a second contextual appearance.

44. The work environment of claim 41 wherein the first arrangement provides a first territorial appearance and the second arrangement provides a second territorial appearance.

45. The work environment of claim 41 wherein the floor space includes a first work area and a second work area physically separated by at least one display panel.

46. The work environment of claim 45 wherein the retractable partition is adapted to provide at least partial concealment of at least one display panel.

47. The work environment of claim 45 further comprising a utility threshold to provide utilities for use by at least a portion of the workers and coupled to the at least one rail.

48. In a fixed floor space work environment adapted to support a group of workers sharing information contained on a plurality of display panels, the improvement comprising:

the plurality of display panels being cantilevered from and mounted for movement along at least one rail between a first arrangement and at least one second arrangement, the first arrangement allowing one worker to use substantially all available floor space and the second arrangement allowing a plurality of workers to share the available floor space so as to facilitate the utilization of the floor space by workers present in the work environment; and

a utility threshold coupled to the at least one rail to provide utilities for use by at least a portion of the workers.

49. The work environment of claim 48 further comprising at least one container coupled to the at least one rail and having at least one display panel.

50. The work environment of claim 48 wherein the plurality of display panels are adapted for pivotal movement with respect to the at least one rail.

51. The work environment of claim 48 wherein the first arrangement provides a first contextual appearance and the second arrangement provides a second contextual appearance.

52. The work environment of claim 48 further comprising a docking area providing a space for stowing the utility threshold.

53. The work environment of claim 48 wherein the utility threshold is coupled to a mounting structure.

54. The work environment of claim 53 wherein the utility threshold provides at least one of a data connection, a power connection, or a voice connection.

55. The work environment of claim 54 wherein the utility threshold provides at least one lighting fixture.

56. The work environment of claim 54 wherein the utility threshold includes at least one utility delivery zone.

57. The work environment of claim 56 wherein the utility threshold includes a utility infeed for providing at least one of a voice utility, a power utility, or a data utility.

58. The work environment of claim 56 wherein the utility threshold is at least partially supported on a floor.

59. The work environment of claim 58 wherein the utility threshold provides a docking area providing a space for stowing of at least one display panel.

60. The work environment of claim 59 wherein the utility threshold at least partially defines a work area within the work environment.

61. The work environment of claim 58 wherein the utility threshold provides a retractable partition adapted to provide at least partial concealment of at least one display panel.

62. In a fixed floor space work environment adapted to support a group of workers sharing information contained on a plurality of display panels, the improvement comprising:

the plurality of display panels being cantilevered from a mounting structure comprising a partial height wall and mounted for movement along at least one rail between a first arrangement and at least one second arrangement, the first arrangement allowing one worker to use substantially all available floor space and the second arrangement allowing a plurality of workers to share the available floor space so as to facilitate the utilization of the floor space by workers present in the work environment; and

a utility threshold attached to a track system coupled to the partial height wall.

63. The work environment of claim 62 further comprising at least one container having at least one display panel and coupled to the mounting structure.

64. The work environment of claim 62 wherein the first arrangement provides a first contextual appearance and the second arrangement provides a second contextual appearance.

65. The work environment of claim 64 further comprising a docking area for stowing at least a portion of the plurality of the display panels.

66. The work environment of claim 64 wherein the utility threshold provides at least one of a data connection, a power connection, or a voice connection.

67. The work environment of claim 66 wherein the utility threshold includes a utility infeed for providing at least one of a voice signal, a power signal, or a data signal.

68. The work environment of claim 67 wherein the utility threshold is at least partially supported on a floor.

69. The work environment of claim 68 wherein the utility threshold is mounted to the partial height wall.

70. The work environment of claim 68 wherein the utility threshold includes a horizontal beam and a vertical post.

71. The work environment of claim 68 wherein the utility threshold provides a docking area providing a space for stowing of at least one display panel.

75. In a fixed floor space work environment adapted to support a group of workers sharing information contained on a plurality of display panels, the improvement comprising:

a utility threshold at least partially supported on a floor; and

the plurality of display panels being cantilevered from and mounted for movement along at least one rail between a first arrangement and at least one second arrangement, the first arrangement allowing one worker to use substantially all available floor space and the second arrangement allowing a plurality of workers to share the available floor space so as to facilitate the utilization of the floor space by workers present in the work environment.

76. The work environment of claim 75 further comprising at least one container having at least one display panel and coupled to the at least one rail.

77. The work environment of claim 75 wherein the plurality of display panels are adapted for pivotal movement with respect to the at least one rail.

78. The work environment of claim 77 wherein the utility threshold is coupled to a mounting structure.

79. The work environment of claim 78 wherein the utility threshold provides at least one of a data connection, a power connection, or a voice connection.

80. The work environment of claim 79 wherein the utility threshold includes at least one utility delivery zone.

88. A work space allowing the formation of a plurality of work areas to support a plurality of workers therein, comprising:

a plurality of substantially fixed mounting structures;

a plurality of articles of furniture, at least some of the articles of furniture being mobile with respect to the substantially fixed mounting structures, and at least one of the articles of furniture a docking area having a space for stowing at leas one container and including a shelving unit;

an information display system including a plurality of display panels mounted on a track system for both pivotal movement relative to at least one of the plurality of mounting structures and for translating movement along the track system;

wherein work areas can selectively be formed within the work space by movement of the display panels and of the articles of furniture with respect to the fixed mounting structures.

89. The work space of claim 88 wherein at least one mounting structure is a partial height wall.

90. The work space of claim 88 further comprising at least one container having at least one display panel and coupled to the track system.

91. The work space of claim 90 wherein at least one display panel includes a first display panel and a second display panel and wherein the first display panel and the second display panel are coupled for independent pivotal movement with respect to the mounting structure.

92. The work space of claim 91 wherein the appearance of at least one work area is physically defined by at least one display panel.

93. The work space of claim 91 wherein the work area is defined both by an arrangement of the plurality of display panels and by the information presented by at least a portion of the plurality of display panels.

94. The work space of claim 91 wherein at least one article of furniture includes an article of furniture providing a worksurface and the plurality of display panels are at a vertical height to provide for clearance above the worksurface.

95. The work space of claim 91 wherein at least one article of furniture includes a retractable screen adapted to provide at least partial concealment of at least one display panel.

an information display system including a plurality of display panels mounted on a track system for both pivotal movement with respect to at least one of the plurality of mounting structures and for translating movement along the track system;

wherein work areas can selectively be formed within the work space by movement of the display panels and of the articles of furniture with respect to the fixed mounting structures.

wherein work areas can selectively be formed within the work space by movement of the display panels and of the articles of furniture with respect to the fixed mounting structures.

a plurality of articles of furniture, at least one of the articles of furniture being mobile with respect to the substantially fixed mounting structures;

an information display system including;

a plurality of containers;

a plurality of display panels mounted on a track system for both pivotal movement with respect to at least one of the plurality of mounting structures and for translating movement along the track system, at least one of the display panels including at least one display board;

wherein work areas can selectively be formed within the work space by movement of the display panels and of the articles of furniture with respect to the fixed mounting structures.

130. The work space of claim 129 wherein at least one container includes at least one display panel.

131. The work space of claim 130 wherein at least one display panel includes at least one display board.

132. The work space of claim 130 wherein the appearance of at least one work area is physically defined by the container.

133. The work space of claim 130 wherein the plurality of work areas includes a first work area and a second work area physically separated by a container.

143. A work space for providing at least one work area comprising:

a track system;

an information display system including a plurality of display panels adapted to present information attached to the track system for both pivotal and translating movement with respect to the track system between a first arrangement and at least one second arrangement;

a shelving unit providing a docking area having a space for stowing at least one container;

wherein the first arrangement of panels is configured to display information on the panels to individual workers in the work area and the second arrangement of panels is configured to share information on the panels with a group of workers in the work area.

144. The work area of claim 143 wherein the track system is coupled to a mounting structure.

145. The work area of claim 144 wherein the container includes at least one display panel including at least one display board.

146. The work area of claim 145 wherein the appearance of at least one work area is physically defined by the container.

147. The work area of claim 145 wherein a team work area is defined within which information may be selectively revealed to team members by arrangement of the containers.

148. The work area of claim 145 wherein the plurality of display panels are adapted for pivotal movement with respect to the at least one rail.

149. The work area of claim 148 wherein at least one display panel includes a first display panel and a second display panel and wherein the first display panel and the second display panel are coupled for independent pivotal movement with respect to the mounting structures.

150. The work area of claim 149 wherein the first arrangement provides a first territorial appearance and the second arrangement provides a second territorial appearance.

151. The work area of claim 150 wherein at least one work area includes a first work area and a second work area physically separated by at least one display panel.

152. The work area of claim 151 further comprising a retractable partition adapted to provide a division of the floor space.

153. The work area of claim 151 further comprising the at least one article of furniture providing a worksurface and the plurality of display panels are at a vertical height to provide for clearance above the worksurface.

154. The work area of claim 151 further comprising at least one article of furniture including a retractable screen adapted to provide at least partial concealment of at least one display panel.

155. The work area of claim 151 wherein the docking area includes a space for stowing a utility threshold.

156. The work area of claim 151 further comprising a utility threshold attached to the track system.

157. A work space for providing at least one work area comprising:

a track system;

an information display system including a plurality of display panels adapted to present information attached to the track system for both pivotal and translating movement with respect to the track system between a first arrangement and at least one second arrangement;

a utility threshold movably attached to the track system;

wherein the first arrangement of display panels is configured to display information on the display panels to individual workers in the work area and the second arrangement of display panels is configured to share information on the display panels with a group of workers in the work area.

158. The work space of claim 157 wherein the track system is coupled to a mounting structure.

159. The work space of claim 158 further comprising at least one container having at least one display panel and coupled to the track system.

160. The work space of claim 159 wherein at least one display panel includes a first display panel and a second display panel and wherein the first display panel and the second display panel are coupled for independent pivotal movement with respect to the mounting structure.

161. The work space of claim 160 wherein the work area is defined both by an arrangement of the plurality of display panels and by the information presented by at least a portion of the plurality of display panels.

at least one article of furniture providing a docking area having a space for stowing at least one container and including a retractable screen adapted to provide at least partial concealment of at least one display panel;

at least one article of furniture providing a docking area including a space for stowing a mobile article of furniture and having a space for stowing at least one container;

wherein the first arrangement of display panels is configured to display information on the display panels to individual workers in the work area and the second arrangement of display panels is configured to share information on the display panels with a group of workers in the work area.
