1. A method of urinalysis comprising the steps of:

  • transmitting a polarized incident light through urine while applying a magnetic field to said urine, said urine being composed of a medium which exhibits optical Faraday effects, and being composed of a spontaneous optically active substance, said spontaneously optically active substance being operable to cause a change in an angle of polarization of said incident light due to a spontaneous optical rotary power of said spontaneous optically active substance in said urine, and said optical Faraday effects being operable to cause a change in an angle of polarization of said incident light due to the optical Faraday effect of a medium in said urine;

    detecting a light which has transmitted through said urine and subsequently an intensity of said light using an optical sensor;

    determining an angle of rotation of said spontaneous optically active substance based on a relation between an output signal from said optical sensor and said change in an angle of polarization of said incident light due to said optical Faraday effect of said medium; and

    determining a concentration of said optically active substance in said urine based on said angle of rotation of said optically active substance, wherein neither the polarized incident light nor the light which has transmitted through said urine is modulated outside of said urine to determine the concentration of said optically active substance.
