1. A method of providing syringe information from a syringe comprising a body comprising at least one mounting flange, an encoding device and a plunger disposed within the body to an injector comprising a housing comprising at least one retaining flange, a motor operable to drive a piston, a sensor associated with the housing and a control unit in communication with the sensor and the motor, the method comprising:

  • rotating the syringe such that the at least one mounting flange is rotated to cause engagement with the at least one retaining flange on the injector housing;

    reading the syringe information provided by the encoding device with the sensor as the syringe is rotated to cause engagement with the injector; and

    forwarding the syringe information from the sensor to the control unit.
