1. A process of both mixing and separating magnetic particles in a single apparatus, using a magnetic means, comprising:

  • providing a container having a fluid and said particles therein;

    positioning said magnetic means near said container;

    said magnetic means and said container, when stationary, causing said particles to aggregate as a relatively compact mass on an inner surface of a wall of said container closest to said magnetic means;

    and providing relative movement between said magnetic means and said container to cause said particles to be pulled off from said mass, forming layers of particles which subsequently break up to form a cloud of particles in said fluid;

    said cloud of particles being formed by providing a required angular acceleration value, container cross sectional dimension or dimensions, fluid medium, particle size and mass, and magnetic field strength;

    wherein said angular acceleration is at least 0.84 radians/sec2.
