Absorbent article with improved liquid acquisition capability
First Claim
1. An absorbent article having a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction and comprising a mid portion and two end portions, which article is adapted to be substantially accommodated within a user'"'"'s panties, the absorbent article comprising an absorbent upper part and an absorbent lower part, which two parts are mutually joined, whereby the upper part presents a first liquid-permeable surface which, during use, faces the user and a second surface which faces towards a first liquid-permeable surface on the lower part, the lower part further presenting a second, liquid-impermeable surface on a side of the article which, during use, faces away from the user, wherein the article further comprises means for obtaining and maintaining an elongate cavity between the second surface of the upper part and the first surface of the lower part, at least in the mid portion of the article, whereby the upper part and the lower part in the elongate cavity are mutually separated by a predetermined distance of between 0.3 and 5 mm, the distance being maintained during use of the article irrespective of a user'"'"'s posture, and the elongate cavity permits at least some liquid to flow from the user into the elongate cavity without first passing through other components of the article.

19. An absorbent article comprising:
-
a mid portion and two end portions;
an absorbent lower part having a first liquid-permeable surface facing a user during use, and a second liquid-impermeable surface on a side of the article which faces away from the user during use;
an absorbent upper part having a forward edge defining a forward section, a rearward edge defining a rearward section, two side edges, a first liquid-permeable surface which faces the user during use, and a second surface which faces the first liquid-permeable surface of the absorbent lower part;
the second surface of the upper part and the first liquid-permeable surface of the lower part defining an elongate cavity in the mid portion of the article;
the absorbent upper part and the absorbent lower part being sufficiently shape-permanent in a region between the forward section and the rearward section so as to maintain a distance of between 0.3 and 5 mm between the second surface of the upper part and the first liquid-permeable surface of the lower part in the elongate cavity during use irrespective of a user'"'"'s posture;
the upper part and the lower part being joined solely at the forward section and rearward section of the upper part so as to keep the side edges of the upper part at a distance from the lower part so as to enable liquid transmission into the cavity; and
wherein the absorbent article is adapted to be substantially accommodated within a user'"'"'s panties. - View Dependent Claims (25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33)

20. An absorbent article comprising:
-
a mid portion and two end portions;
an absorbent lower part having a first liquid-permeable surface facing a user during use;
a substantially elongate absorbent upper part having a forward edge defining a forward section, a rearward edge defining a rearward section, two side edges, a first liquid-permeable surface which faces the user during use, and a second surface which faces the first liquid-permeable surface of the absorbent lower part, the upper part comprising relatively stiff material;
the absorbent lower part further having a rigid, shape-permanent liquid-impermeable surface on a side of the article which faces away from the user during use, the rigid, shape permanent liquid-impermeable surface extending at least to the edges of the upper part in longitudinal and transverse directions;
the first liquid-permeable surface of the lower part being curved in a direction away from the upper part;
the rigid, shape-permanent liquid-impermeable surface being curved in the longitudinal direction away from the the upper part and having a shape so as to form an elongate cavity between the second surface of the upper part and the first liquid-permeable surface; and
the absorbent upper part and the absorbent lower part being sufficiently shape-permanent in a region between the forward section and the rearward section so as to maintain a distance of between 0.3 and 5 mm between the second surface of the upper part and the first liquid-permeable surface of the lower part in the elongate cavity during use; and
the upper part and the lower part being joined solely at the forward section and the rearward section of the upper part so as to keep the side edges of the upper part at a distance from the lower part so as to enable liquid transmission into the cavity;
wherein the absorbent article is adapted to be substantially accommodated within a user'"'"'s panties. - View Dependent Claims (21, 22, 23, 24)
