1. A manual interface device for enabling an interaction between a person and an environment, comprising:

  • a haptic interface device for providing a haptic sensation to the person in response to interaction with the environment; and

    a discrete selector that affects the interaction of the person with the environment in accordance with an identity of state of the discrete selector, wherein the discrete selector is removably connectable to the haptic interface device;

    wherein the discrete selector comprises a base on which a plurality of selection mechanisms are mounted or attached, each selection mechanism affecting the interaction of the person with the environment in accordance with an identity or state of the selection mechanism.
