1. A steer-by-wire system comprising:

  • a steering wheel;

    a steering wheel sensor disposed relative to said steering wheel for sensing a position thereof and producing a signal indicative of the position of said steering wheel;

    a directional control unit for providing a signal indicative of an actual vehicular direction;

    a controller in signal communication with said steering wheel sensor and said directional control unit, for receiving the signal indicative of the position of said steering wheel from said steering wheel sensor and the signal indicative of the actual vehicular direction from said directional control unit, and producing a signal indicative of a desired steering wheel feedback torque; and

    a tactile feedback device in signal communication with said controller for receiving the signal indicative of the desired steering wheel feedback torque and providing a corresponding torque to said steering wheel.
