Blood vessel clip applicator
First Claim
1. A blood vessel clip, comprising:
- a head defining first and second planes;
a first leg extending from the head and comprising spring-quality material, a proximal end, and a distal end; and
a second leg extending from the head and comprising spring-quality material, a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end of the first leg substantially crossing the proximal end of the second leg such that the first leg and the second leg lie in planes separate from the planes defined by the head, and the first leg and the second leg define a space adapted to receive a blood vessel;
wherein the blood vessel clip has a resting, normally open state and a closed state, the distal ends of the first and second legs being biased away from each other in the open state when a compressive force is not applied to the head, the blood vessel clip being compressible from the open state to the closed state by application of a compressive force to the head.

Abstract
A blood vessel clip, preferably comprising spring quality material, has a head connected to a first leg and a second leg. Preferably, the two legs of the blood vessel clip are in a “V” configuration so that a blood vessel can be located therebetween. The blood vessel clip is adapted so that, when forced axially through a constricted region of a clip applicator, a compressive force is exerted on the head by the constricted region. This compressive force causes the legs of the clip to move closer relative to one another, thereby closing the clip and occluding a blood vessel located between the two legs. A variety of blood vessel clips having different shapes, cross-sections and grooves suitable for occluding a blood vessel are described.
