1. A method of anterior cruciate reconstruction surgery of the knee, comprising the steps of:

  • forming a opening in a femur, the opening having an entrance facing a joint of the knee;

    forming a transverse hole in the femur extending completely across the femur and intersecting the opening, the transverse hole extending from a first side of the femur on one side of the opening to an opposite side of the femur on the opposite side of the opening;

    positioning a flexible strand in the knee such that the flexible stand extends into the opening through the transverse hole on the first side of the femur, across the opening, and out of the transverse hole on the opposite side of the femur;

    moving a portion of the flexible stand out through the entrance of the opening, through a tunnel in a tibia and out of the knee;

    engaging a graft with the portion of the strand extending out of the knee;

    pulling the graft through the tunnel in the tibia and into the opening; and

    securing the graft in the opening by advancing an implant transversely into the opening and under the graft, using the strand as a guide.
