providing a reference electrode (1) for electrochemical measurements, characterized in that it has an electrode component (3) including metallic palladium, that the electrode component (3) is covered by a layer (4) formed of or containing a palladium compound that is poorly soluble in aqueous media, and that a reference electrolyte (5) containing anions of the palladium compound in dissolved form is positioned thereon; and
,connecting said electrode in the circuit.
