1. A liquid crystal display element comprising:

  • a pair of substrates;

    a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between said pair of substrates;

    a plurality of gate lines disposed on one of said pair of substrates;

    a plurality of drain lines disposed to be insulated from and intersect said plurality of said gate lines on said one of said pair of substrates;

    a plurality of thin film transistors disposed in a vicinity of intersections of said plurality of gate lines and said plurality of drain lines;

    a plurality of pixel electrodes made of transparent conductive material, each of said plurality of pixel electrodes being disposed in an area surrounded by two adjacent ones of said plurality of gate lines and two adjacent ones of said plurality of drain lines, and driven by a corresponding one of said plurality of thin film transistors;

    a common electrode disposed on another of said pair of substrates to face said plurality of pixel electrodes; and

    a plurality of storage lines disposed below said plurality of pixel electrodes with an insulating layer interposed between said plurality of storage lines and said plurality of pixel electrodes, each of said plurality of pixel electrodes being formed with an opening in a portion thereof facing a corresponding one of said plurality of storage lines.
