1. An electrotransport apparatus for delivery of a drug or other beneficial agent through a body surface of a subject, comprising:

  • an electrochemical cell having an electrochemically active cathode and an electrochemically active anode;

    at least a portion of at least one of the electrochemically active cathode and the electrochemically active anode configured as at least one electroactive needle, wherein the at least one electroactive needle is configured for conducting current in relation to the body surface and for delivering the drug or other beneficial agent across the subject'"'"'s body surface; and

    a conductor for electrically interconnecting the electrochemically active cathode with the electrochemically active anode;

    wherein said electrochemically active anode and said electrochemically active cathode form a power source for said electrotransport apparatus.
