Abstract

The present invention includes a gaming device having a processor and a display device connected to the processor. In addition to a base game which includes slot, poker, keno or blackjack, the present invention displays at least a set and preferably a plurality of sets of symbols on the display device. The base game, be it slot, poker, keno or blackjack, includes means, connected to the processor, for generating the symbols. Upon generating one of the symbols, the game provides an award associated with the generated symbol. Upon generating the set of symbols, the game provides a progressive award, wherein the progressive award includes at least one award and preferably each of the awards associated with the symbols of the completed set.

Claims

1. A gaming device comprising:

a display device;

a processor that communicates with the display device;

a set of symbols including a plurality of symbols adapted to be displayed by the display device;

a base game controlled by the processor and adapted to randomly generate symbols of said set;

a value associated with at least one of the symbols of the set generated in the base game; and

a progressive award provided to the player when all of the symbols of the set are generated, said progressive award including at least one of the values associated with at least one of the symbols of the set generated in the base game.

2. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein a symbol is generated in the base game by generating the symbol itself or an intermediary outcome that yields the symbol.

The gaming device of claim 1, which includes a plurality of symbol sets each including a plurality of symbols adapted to be displayed by the display device, wherein the base game is adapted to randomly generate symbols of each of said sets, a value is associated with at least one of the symbols of each of the sets generated in the base game, and a progressive award is provided to the player for each set when all of the symbols said set are generated, said progressive award for said set including at least one of the values associated with at least one of the symbols of said set generated in the base game.

4. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the base game is a game selected from the group consisting of:

slot, poker, blackjack and keno.

5. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of one of the symbols of the set.

6. The gaming device of claim 5, wherein the triggering event includes a predetermined combination of symbols along a payline of a slot machine.

7. The gaming device of claim 5, wherein the triggering event includes a poker combination selected from the group consisting of:

at least two of the same card denomination, a straight, a flush, a straight-flush, two pair and a full house.

8. The gaming device of claim 5, wherein the triggering event includes a blackjack combination selected from the group consisting of:

a blackjack, a total hand number and a bust.

9. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of a plurality of the symbols of the set.

10. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of each symbol of the set.

11. The gaming device of claim 1, which requires multiple plays of the base game to generate each symbol of the set.

12. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of a master symbol, the master symbol completing the set and yielding the progressive award to the player.

13. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of a master symbol, the master symbol completing the set and yielding a predefined award to the player.

14. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the processor controlling the base game provides a random generation that generates the symbols of the set.

15. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the base game generates an item that changes into one of the symbols of the set, the item chosen from a group consisting of:

a reel symbol, a card and a keno number.

16. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the progressive award includes a combination of the values associated the generation of the symbols of the set.

17. The gaming device of claim 1, wherein the progressive award includes a combination of products resulting from multiplying the value by a base game bet.

18. The gaming device of claim 17, wherein the base game bet is a wager made by the player along a payline.

19. The gaming device of claim 1, which includes an additional award for generating the symbols of the set, wherein the additional award is provided with the progressive award upon generating the symbols.

20. A gaming device comprising:

a processor;

a plurality of sets of symbols;

a base game controlled by the processor which randomly generates symbols of each of said sets;

a value associated with at least one of the symbols of each of the sets generated in the base game; and

a progressive award provided to the player for each set when all of the symbols of said set are generated, said progressive award for said set including at least one of the values associated with at least one of the symbols of said set generated in the base game.

21. The gaming device of claim 20, which includes a progressive award provided to a player for the set that is first to have each of its symbols generated.

22. The gaming device of claim 20, wherein the base game includes an event associated with one of the sets of symbols which triggers a generation of at least one symbol for the associated set.

23. The gaming device of claim 22, wherein the base game is a slot game and the event includes generating at least one symbol on at least one reel of the slot game.

24. The gaming device of claim 22, which includes a plurality of the events, wherein each event is dedicated to a different set of symbols.

25. A gaming device comprising:

a processor;

a display device that communicates with the processor;

a base game controlled by the processor and displayed by the display device, the base game configured to randomly generate base game awards and symbols of a set;

a value associated with each of the symbols of said set generated in the base game; and

a progressive award provided to a player upon the generation of all of the symbols of the set, the progressive award including all of the generated values associated with the symbols of said set.

26. The gaming device of claim 25, which includes a plurality of the symbol sets each having an associated progressive award which includes all values associated with the symbols of said set generated in the base game.

27. The gaming device of claim 26, wherein the progressive award associated with the set that is first to have each of its symbols generated is provided to the player.

28. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the base game is a game selected from the group consisting of:

slot, poker, blackjack and keno.

29. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of one of the symbols of the set.

30. The gaming device of claim 29, wherein the triggering event includes one of:

a reel symbol and a reel symbol combination along a payline of a slot machine.

31. The gaming device of claim 29, wherein the triggering event includes a poker combination selected from the group consisting of:

at least two of the same card denomination, a straight, a flush, a straight-flush, two pair and a full house.

32. The gaming device of claim 29, wherein the triggering event includes a blackjack combination selected from the group consisting of:

a blackjack, a total hand number and a bust.

33. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of a plurality of the symbols.

34. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of each symbol of the set.

35. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of a master symbol, the master symbol completing the set and yielding the progressive award to the player.

36. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the base game includes an event that triggers the generation of a master symbol, the master symbol completing the set and yielding a predefined award to the player.

37. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the symbols of the set are symbols generated on reels of a slot machine.

38. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the symbols are face cards generated in a poker game.

39. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the symbols are face cards generated in a blackjack game.

40. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the base game includes a changeable item that changes into one of the symbols of the set, the changeable item chosen from the group consisting of:

a reel symbol, a face card and a number.

41. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the progressive award includes a combination of each of the generated values.

42. The gaming device of claim 25, wherein the progressive award includes a combination of products resulting from multiplying each value by a base game bet.

43. The gaming device of claim 25, which includes an additional award for generating the symbols of the set, wherein the additional award is provided with the progressive award upon generating the symbols.

44. A gaming device comprising:

a plurality of symbol sets, each set having at least one symbol that yields a value, a progressive award associated with each set, wherein each progressive award includes the values associated with the at least one symbol for the award'"'"'s associated set;

a display device that displays the symbol sets; and

a processor that communicates with the display device, said processor directing a generation of symbols of the sets during a base game of the gaming device.
