Abstract

The present invention provides an oxide superconducting wire including a component provided in the form of a tape and a metal tape. The component in the form of a tape has an oxide superconducting member and a metal coating member formed mainly of silver and coating a surface of the oxide superconducting member. The metal tape, bonded in a heat treatment (e.g., fusion- or diffusion-bonded) to a surface of the component in the form of a tape, does not contain any superconducting material and it is formed mainly of silver and it also contains at least one component other than silver.

Claims

1. A method of manufacturing a superconducting wire, comprising the steps of:

preparing a component in a form of a tape including a plurality of oxide superconducting members which make a multifilamentary structure having at least a superconducting phase, and a metal coating member formed mainly of silver, and coating said plurality of superconducting members, said component having a longitudinal dimension; and

bring into contact with a first surface of said component in longitudinal dimension, a first metal tape free of any superconducting material, said first metal tape being formed of an alloy formed mainly of silver, and subjecting said component and said first metal tape to a heat treatment,

wherein a thickness direction of said component is not covered by said first metal tape.

2. The method of manufacturing the superconducting wire according to claim 1, wherein said heat treatment is performed with said component having opposite, first and second main surfaces both in contact with said first metal tape.

3. The method of manufacturing the superconducting wire according to claim 1, wherein said heat treatment corresponds to a final one of all heat treatments.

4. The method of manufacturing the superconducting wire according to claim 1, wherein said component has a second surface which extends in the longitudinal direction and which is opposite to said first surface extending in the longitudinal direction, the method further comprising the step of:

bonding said second metal tape to said second surface.

5. The method of manufacturing the superconducting wire according to claim 1, wherein said first and second metal tapes are formed of different materials.

6. The method of manufacturing the superconducting wire according to claim 1, wherein said first metal tape is greater in mechanical strength than said component.

7. The method of manufacturing the superconducting wire according to claim 1, wherein said first metal tape is formed of silver with an oxide dispersed therein.

8. The method of manufacturing the superconducting wire according to claim 7, wherein a concentration of said oxide in said first metal tape is higher than a concentration of an oxide in said metal coating member.

9. The method of manufacturing the superconducting wire according to claim 1, wherein said oxide superconducting member is formed of a bismuth based superconductor.
