1. A method of selecting and deselecting target information within an electronic document, the method comprising the steps of:

  • accepting input via an input interface;

    creating a begin active select delimiter at a first location associated with a positional indicator that is proximate to the target information in the electronic document and moving the positional indicator to a second location;

    creating an end active select delimiter at the second location;

    performing one of a selecting and deselecting of the target information based on relative positions of the begin active select delimiter and the end active select delimiter;

    storing the locations of the begin active select delimiter and the end active select delimiter; and

    retaining the locations of the begin active select delimiter and the end active select delimiter while inserting additional pairs of begin active select delimiters and end active select delimiters to form non-contiguous regions of the target information.
