1. An electromagnetic-wave transmission system capable of generating at least one time-domain signal from a superposition of a plurality of carrier signals, the transmission system including:
- a multicarrier-signal generator capable of generating a plurality of carrier signals, a complex-weight generator coupled to the multicarrier-signal generator adapted to generate a plurality of complex carrier weights to map at least one information symbol into at least one pulse waveform resulting from a superposition of the carrier signals and centered at a predetermined time, and a combiner coupled to at least one of the complex-weighting system and the multicarrier-signal generator, the combiner capable of combining the plurality of carrier signals to produce a superposition signal haying at least one desired time-domain property resulting from interference between the carrier signals.

Abstract
Principles of quantum interferometry are used to create a signal architecture (known as carrier interferometry) for wireless and waveguide electromagnetic-wave communications. Carrier interferometry provides unprecedented bandwidth efficiency and enables substantial improvements in interference rejection, power efficiency, and system versatility. The carrier interferometry architecture also enables simpler transceiver designs that facilitate digital up-conversion and down-conversion.
