1. A spindle having an outer cylindrical spindle surface and an axial end bore with an inner cylindrical spindle surface, the spindle having a radial spindle thickness between said inner and outer cylindrical spindle surfaces, the spindle having a deformable annular end portion with internal and outer surfaces and a terminal end surface, the outer surface of the deformable annular end portion being a continuation of the outer cylindrical spindle surface, the deformable end portion having a radial thickness between its internal and outer surfaces that is less than the radial spindle thickness, the internal surface of the deformable end portion being spaced radially outwardly of the inner cylindrical spindle surface and merging into the inner cylindrical spindle surface along a straight beveled surface, the deformable end portion having a tapered inner surface that tapers inwardly along at least a portion of the length thereof from said terminal end surface toward said beveled surface so that said deformable end portion gradually increases in thickness along at least a portion of the length thereof from said terminal end surface toward said beveled surface.
